Thoughts about Marathoning or watching Weekly and How I Watch Anime

January 21, 2014 by Chikorita157 4 Comments

Artist: akama zenta

In a recent post that Kai wrote last week about watching weekly or marathon shows got me thinking: How do people generally watch Anime? With streaming, powerful tablets and smartphones, there are more places where one can watch it. Even so, people are going to have different preferences on how much they watch and where they watch it. Surface Pro 2 Review – Great Tablet for Anime Blogging?

January 11, 2014 by Chikorita157 6 Comments
Directly from Leanbox, Vert joins the tablet competition with her own tablet.
Directly from Leanbox, Vert joins the tablet competition with her own tablet.

Back in 2010, I became a first adopter of the original iPad, which was the device that started the tablet computer craze. I liked the device for the fact that I can surf the Internet, read e-books, watch Youtube, check twitter and stuff without having to drag a laptop along. Of course, tablets got more powerful since one can now view fansubs without converting them (even 10 bit providing that you have the latest tablet and the right player) and even write a post using the native Wordpress interface with image uploading. While tablets won’t replace a laptop for some tasks, they are handy when you are on the move.

On the other hand, when Apple decided to leave the original iPad behind for iOS 6 even though it can probably handle it.  Since I got frustrated with my Livescribe pen, which is a device I use to take notes during class and transfer them to the computer, I need a tablet with an active digitizer. After reading about the capabilities Kai’s tablet can do, I decided on getting a Windows 8.1 tablet, particularly the new Surface Pro 2 Microsoft released last year.

High Expectations and Hype for Anime, is it a Bad Thing?

January 6, 2014 by Chikorita157 7 Comments

Back in Fall of 2013, people became increasingly disappointed to Kyoukai no Kanata as it didn’t live up to expectations. This made me wonder about if hype and having high expectation is a bad thing or not. (Image Source)

Thoughts on Anime/Japanese Media Criticism – Can there ever be an Objective Criticism?

December 3, 2013 by Chikorita157 8 Comments

In the past, I covered several topics relating to criticism such as what Anime is good and what is bad. Now, I want to focus more thoughts on criticism of Anime or media in general as I only touch upon how I reviewed things. I understand that people will have different options, thus a well-balanced or objective one can be difficult to achieve for various reasons.

I’m not Doing This Because I Like You or Anything – Thoughts about The Tsundere Archetype

Pokemon Y – Final Review

October 29, 2013 by Chikorita157 8 Comments

Artist: hirako

It’s have been a long time since I reviewed a Pokémon Game. When I got a Japanese version of Pokémon Black 2 back in June of last year, although I enjoyed it, I felt that it didn’t add much in terms of gameplay besides finishing what the prequels started. Not only that, even though I spent 380+ in the Generation V games, I didn’t like the fact that none of my favorites (e.g. Eevee) was in the first game and that it took power creep to another level.  Generation V was a pretty big mess, especially considering permanent Sunny Day or Rain Dance. This is why I hardly did any wifi battles.  With that, perhaps Game Freak finally realized the monster they just created and decided to fix that with Pokémon X and Y with its transition to full 3D. Anime and Video Games – Finding the Balance

October 23, 2013 by Chikorita157 4 Comments

Back in 2012, I shared my thoughts on how I manage to use my free time to do other things besides studying. While graduate years proved to be a bit more time-consuming compared to before, I never touch upon how much attention I put into watching Anime along with other hobbies such as video games. A certain post written by Yumeka from Anime Yume sparked my interest in writing this and expand my thoughts beyond the time management post. (Image Source)

Perceiving Anime as “Too Old”

September 17, 2013 by Chikorita157 3 Comments

Artist: mutsuki (moonknives)

In a recent topic that Yumeka focused on an interesting topic on why people feel that Anime made in the early years are considered too old. If we look at modern Anime today and compare it to the one’s in the 90s or early 2000s, we already seen that the medium gone such a long way from being something niche to going the main stream. While I’m not going to go compare the trends from each time period in detail, I want to share my reasons why people perceive some Anime as “too old” and if this feeling is subjective or not? Japanese Role Playing Games: Why They aren’t being Localized?

September 10, 2013 by Chikorita157 4 Comments

After watching a video about someone’s thoughts about Japanese RPGs and the losing popularity of the genre in the west, it got me wondering why this is the case because Japanese video game developers are becoming more reluctant to localize more releases. I think there are some reasons why they feel this way. (Image Source)

Examining the Dark Side of the Anime Fandom – The Anime Fan Dumb

July 9, 2013 by Chikorita157 18 Comments

Artist: yude

If you look at any fandom, you will bound to find obsessive fans that take things seriously and start berating people for not having the true fans or going on the rampage when the couple he/she wanted doesn’t happen. Or maybe you might come across an elitist anime fan that says your taste in Anime is crap.  To me, I think an Anime Fan Dumb exists for the fact that a small percentage of the fans in the whole fandom are obsessive. My Anime Music Tournament Picks

June 22, 2013 by Chikorita157 2 Comments

Unless you are living under the rock, a fellow blogger named zzeroparticle who runs the Anime Instrumentality Blog has created the first tournament for Anime Music. If you like listening to Anime Music like I do, go ahead and nominate your favorite songs. But in this post, I’m going to discuss the top ten songs I nominated. As always, my picks are subjective so you don’t have to agree with them.

So, what criteria did I use for my nomination ballot? First, I only considered opening, insert songs and ending themes for shows I have watched and listened. Second, I also factor in how good the song sounds along with how memorable and enjoyable the song for my nominations. While my choices are biased for recent Anime, hopefully you won’t judge me.

With that, I will share the top 5 picks I nominated for the tournament first with some arrangements on the piano. (Image Source)
