Japanese Role Playing Games: Why They aren’t being Localized?
After watching a video about someone’s thoughts about Japanese RPGs and the losing popularity of the genre in the west, it got me wondering why this is the case because Japanese video game developers are becoming more reluctant to localize more releases. I think there are some reasons why they feel this way. (Image Source)

Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP – Final Review
As the long summer break comes to an end, I want to focus on giving a review and first impressions of the two games I played. Today, I’m focusing on Hyperdimension Idol Neptunia PP (神次元 アイドルネプテューヌPP), which is basically an idol raising simulator spin-off for the Playstation Vita.
Apparently, Compile Heart knows that idols are very popular in Japan and since they have some capable singers, then why not? But then again, will it live up to the other popular idol simulator, The Idolmaster? Not really. (Image Source)

Damsel and Distress Redux – Is there a Sexism Problem in Video Games?
For a while now, I have been silent on gender issues in video games because it’s very controversial. But today, I’m going to share my thoughts about it and why the issue is overblown. At the same time, the video game industry needs to be addressed because more females are playing video games. (Image Source)

Hyperdimension Neptunia the Animation – Episode 1 – What it means to be a Goddess
For a long time, video games played a big part of my life because of the escapist element coupled with interaction. Of course, somebody came up with a brilliant idea to make a video game personifying the console wars such as the battle between the big three (Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft) or the one that happened in the 90s between the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis.
Now, these consoles are personified as cute girls in a video game titled Hyperdimension Neptunia, which is made by Compile Heart and Idea Factory. While Idea Factory has a bad reputation for making not so good games (although Monster Monpiece was enjoyable), at least their installments to their franchise improved on their gameplay and story. From that, we have the Anime, which everyone waited for.

The Appeal of Video Games: Why I Continue to Play With Them
In February, I talked about my personal experience of how video games changed my life. Just like Anime, video games also play a big role in my life. Since Neptunia the Animation will be airing in a few weeks, I wonder what are the things that make video games appealing? I will share my reasons why I think so. (Image Source)

Atelier Meruru Plus – The Alchemist of Arland 3 – Final Review
You might be asking, “if you have the English version of Atelier Meruru, why would you buy it again on the Vita, but in Japanese?” The answer is that I find the game addictive, but I want to play it on the go. This is where the Plus version comes in as it brings the full game with the DLC included, costumes and extra scenes. Since I use my Vita mainly to practice my Japanese skills, it’s one of the main reasons I bought this game. (Image Source)
Note: Like with all the Arland games, the Plus versions were rereleased on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as DX on September 20, 2018. As with the Plus version, the review will cover the DX versions as well.

Genkai Totsuki Monster Monpiece – First Impressions – A Cute and Fanservicy Monster Girl Trading Card Game
For a while now, there has been a good amount of criticism surrounding Idea Factory/Compile Heart games. They have a bad reputation of having overly complicated gameplay, needless grinding among other things. While the first Neptunia game had a lot of bugs, at least I heard that they improved the gameplay in the sequels. Now with the Playstation Vita, I think they kind of learned their lesson with Genkai Totsuki Monster Monpiece (限界凸騎モンスターモンピース, lit: Unlikely Knight: Monster Monpiece), which sold over 50,000 in retail and download. With that, I would like to share some experiences of playing it after getting through the first Chapter and a part of the next one. (Image Source)

Let’s Play Atelier Meruru – Episode 7 and 8
This is probably the longest episodes I uploaded pretty recently as I usually cut a lot of the requests and bring it down to 50-55 minutes. However, I left some battles in since I want to show off what young Rorona can do. Apparently, she becomes pretty powerful once you give her the most powerful weapon. As you see in the video, her attacks kind of make her look like a magical girl.
As for Episode 9 and 10, I’m rerecording the commentary, so you may notice a noticeable quality increase in the next two episodes. After I finish uploading those episodes, hopefully Spring Break will come so I can record more. Aside from that, the Playstation Vita version of this game releases in about three weeks, so I will be playing that once I beat Tales of Hearts R. (Image Source)

Thoughts about Tales of Series and Tales of Hearts Demo
In the past, I have played various Japanese RPGs such as Final Fantasy and Pokémon (excluding the Atelier games I played recently). Of course, there is one other RPG series that is popular with the Anime fandom and it’s the Tales of Series. (Image Source)

Let’s Play Atelier Meruru – Episode 4, 5 & 6
If you might be wondering why I delayed the third post for this Let’s Play, it’s an unexpected one. I realized recently that I didn’t record enough episodes up until Spring Break, which starts on March 17. The bad news is that, I have to delay Episode 9 and 10 because I need to re-record some parts of the commentary that got messed up. Even so, I bought a better microphone yesterday, which is a Blue Snowball since there was a good deal on it. Hopefully, that will sound better than the crappy internal mic I was using from my previous recordings.
As for the episodes’ content, I’m getting a bit deeper into the game. Basically, I completed my first year of developing while having new people to accompany me on adventures. Of course, there is a special surprise in Episode 6, but I won’t spoil it since it’s cute. (Image Source)

Experience of Using Japanese Video Games as Practice
As you may know from my review of the Playstation Vita, I actually use video games as a way to practice what I have learned besides studying the textbook, memorizing new vocabulary and writing sentences. While the readings are great in the textbook as they show how the grammar is being used for a particular lesson, it can get a bit cheesy at times as it’s usually consists of people talking about school life and such. For that reason, I decided to play some video games in raw Japanese and I had a pretty good experience from it.

Atelier Totori Plus – Final Review
As released back in 2010, Atelier Totori made numerous improvements to the gameplay from Rorona after Gust made their first entry to the Playstation 3 such as the art style and game mechanics. Now, that is now made into a Playstation Vita game that only got a release in Japan. (Image Source)
Note: Like with all the Arland games, the Plus versions were rereleased on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch as DX on September 20, 2018. As with the Plus version, the review will cover the DX versions as well.

Let’s Play Atelier Meruru – Episodes 2 & 3
I basically finished editing Episode 2 and 3 a bit early. Because of that, I may as well bring them to the public. In these episodes, I do some farm development and making the path to the mines. Believe it or not, I made a lot of progress in those five months. Believe me, the in-game time goes by very quickly (although you have a lot of time if you meet the extension requirements).
Also, I received a question on where to get this game since it’s pretty niche. Your best bet is NIS America website or Amazon. Aside from that, feel free to add me on the Playstation Network. Mine is chikorita_157, which is my Japanese PSN account (trophies list will have mostly Japanese language games). I will accept everyone who I know in the blogosphere first.
The next posting (Episode 4 and 5) for this let’s play will be made in two weeks. For now, enjoy! (Image Source)
