The Quest to Revive AniBlogTracker, Finding Japanese Media and Culture Blogs and More

May 26, 2025 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
How one can feel with the state of the current internet.

The internet is getting worse, with search engines forcing AI down everyone’s throats and giving worse search results, thus making it harder to find other Japanese media blog posts, podcasts, videos, and news. Enshittification is worsening the internet, making finding content created by other bloggers, podcasters, and more harder.

Some sites include Anime Nano, AnimeBlogger Antenna, and, most recently, AniBlogTracker. The first two are pretty much gone, which leaves AniBlogTracker. The site aggregates all the anime and Japanese media blogs, channels, podcasts, and more with one website and allows you to follow other sites. Unfortunately, the owner has shut down the website, leaving no alternative until now.

Episode 1 – Speaking out Against Anti-Asian Hate and The Problem of Fetishizing a Culture

April 3, 2021 by Chikorita157

In this episode, we focus on calling out Anti-Asian hate. We also focus on the dark history of the treatment of Asian Americans in the United States. Lastly, we focus on why fetishizing a culture is bad and how it contributes to Anti-Asian racism.

This is an audio version of our post, originally titled Speaking out Against Anti-Asian Hate and The Problem of Fetishizing a Culture, published on March 21,2021. If you have any comments, leave a reply in the original post.

Speaking out Against Anti-Asian Hate and The Problem of Fetishizing a Culture

March 21, 2021 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

In last week’s monthly digest post, I shared my thoughts on the disturbing rise of Anti-Asian hate. Since I review Japanese media, I think it’s important to make people aware of this. It’s not too surprising since only a very few focused on it in the anime blogging community. Given recent events, I think it’s a good idea to make everyone aware of this so we can fight against hate.

The Mysterious Blogger Award – Part I

February 26, 2020 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

It has been a while since I have done one of those blog award posts. As you have might know already, I have been busy relocating to the Washington DC metro area. Yes, it’s for a new job that I have been working at for almost 4 weeks.

Since I have been doing lots of driving back and forth moving stuff, finding a new place and such towards the end of last year, I didn’t get the chance to do it. It’s not until the end of January that I finally moved into a new place. The only problem, I didn’t have stable internet since I didn’t have stable internet. In other words, I couldn’t publish any other content besides episodic reviews, until now.

While I was busy moving, two people appeared to have nominated me for the Mystery Blogger Award. They are SparkNorkx of Supaku Blog and Keni from The Anime Basement. Apparently, the latter person appeared to have lost their post, so if you want me to do it, contact me as soon as possible.

If you are wondering, here is some background on what is this award.

“Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.
– Okoto Enigma

Since I am very busy, I will not be nominating anyone from this award, but I will just do it.

Bang Dream’s Popularity Two Years Later, Girl-Band Boom or The Raise of Mobage?

January 21, 2019 by Chikorita157 1 Comment
Artist: exitb

Nearly two years ago, I wrote an editorial sharing my reasons why the Girl-Band Boom will never happen. Since then, Bang Dream has grown in popularity, especially with their overseas mobile game release. From this, I thought I was going to eat crow over this. With some thought, I wonder if the statement Kidani Takaaki made was correct. Or maybe, does it represent another trend for gaming in Japan? Here are my thoughts.

Yes, it’s that time again. It’s time to answer some questions with the second Sunshine Blogger Award. You can see my first award post back in 2015 over here.  This time, this nomination comes from OG-Man, who writes a blog called The Yuri Nation. With that, it’s time to answer some questions that he provided.

Bang Dream and the Girl-Band Boom, Does it Even Exist or is it a Pipe dream?

April 18, 2017 by Chikorita157 4 Comments

For a while now, I have come across an article about BanG Dream. It’s about a statement that Kidani Takaaki made.  He said that “the idol boom that has continued until now is already finished this year.”

In other words, he believes that idols will make way for the girl-band boom. However, I am very skeptical of that for many reasons that I will share.

Does Downloading Anime Makes You Less of an Anime Fan?

April 7, 2016 by Chikorita157 3 Comments

In the past, I have touched upon thoughts about piracy and how they are taking a wrong approach. Although legal alternatives have made some strides, it has shortcomings besides other issues like region locking and that the subs have quality issues in the viewer’s eyes.

With that in mind, while fans tend to look down other fans because of their tastes of Anime, there is another issue that is also apparent, people chastising people because they prefer to download anime opposed to streaming it legally or buying Blu-rays. While I will share why this practice is counterproductive, there are various reasons why people choose to continue to download instead of watching it on a legal streaming site.

Thoughts on Oversensitive People and Creative Media – Are They Harming it?

In the past, I tend not to talk about these issues.. Sadly, it has gotten to the point that the mainstream media is using them as a scapegoat for all these issues including sites like Anime News Network inserting politics to some of their reviews, thus the discussion becomes polarized. In some cases, this eventually lead to censorship and lack of localization while people shaming others who enjoy these types of media.

It’s surprising how fast time flies since Pokémon officially turns 20 years old later this month with the first generation games (Red and Green) releasing back in February 27th, 1996 in Japan. While I have reflected on the franchise (mostly on the games) in the past, it’s time to share my overall thoughts on how Pokémon made me become an anime fan that I am today.

For a while now, I have bought physical copies of games, music CDs and even anime DVDs/Blu-rays since I prefer owning an actual copy. Nowadays, the trend has shifted towards digital distribution even though Japan still prefer physical formats over digital. Why is this the case and what effects does it have on the industry as a whole.

Anime Scoring – Has it Outlived Its Usefulness?

As you recall, I have shared my thoughts on scoring in the past. Sure, everyone has their own way of scoring things when it come to writing reviews. However, as time goes on and our opinion changes through experiences, you might look back at the list and wonder to yourself, why you gave a show a certain score. Moreover, scores usually do not tell whole story since it is just an arbitrary number. This makes me wonder why bother with them?

The Trans-Pacific Partnership – The Trade Agreement that will Destroy the Anime Fandom as We Know It

October 19, 2015 by Chikorita157 6 Comments

Remember the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act from 2011? These acts aimed to stop piracy, but at the same time introduced unintended consequences since the legislation was so broad that companies and government can use it to request internet service providers to censor sites. If thy were to pass, companies can use it to censor your content and limit free speech. Thankfully, people protested and these two legislations died. ACTA (Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement) faced the same fate since it was SOPA-like.

Now, we have a new bogeyman that will threaten free speech, reign in censorship and limit free speech. This will not only destroy anime blogging, but the anime fandom as we know it. That is the TPP, which is commonly referred to as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a secret trade deal that involves the United States and other Asian countries in the pacific, including Australia, Canada, Japan and others.

This recently leaked treaty has a lot of nasty copyright restrictions that will undermine fair use and make copyright violations a criminal offense. This mean that you might get a hefty fine or even get thrown into jail. With that, I’m going to share some background information about the treaty and then go into certain provisions that will possibly impact the anime fandom as a whole.

However, after hearing news about fans threatening others through violence over other fans opinions and such, it makes you wonder if there are some really bad apples and messed up people in the fandom that are worse than the anime fandumb since their behavior hurt the overall reputation of ordinary people like you and me who happens to enjoy anime or even video games.

Bullying and Generalizing People for Liking Anime and/or Video Games

In the past few weeks, I have witnessed a lot of bullying and name-calling shaming people who play or enjoy video games. It’s true that people tend to judge people depending on tastes and their hobbies such as people who like Anime since it’s a niche medium. Because of this, people who are not familiar with it will likely hold an ignorant, distorted or uninformed view on it and generalize them to a certain stereotype or label.
