Kaichou wa Maid-Sama – Episode 22 – Gone Camping?

September 24, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
You might be wondering, why they are hiding?

It has been weeks since I covered Maid-sama, so I expect more Hinata development after he reunites with “Misaki-chan.”

The class has a field trip to the mountains where they first work their butts off and then have a camp out on the forth day. The only problem is that all the males get the intensive work while the females get the easy work! That did not work well in the end when the students arrive at the campsite. Because of the deprivation of pretty much everything else, the male students goes girl crazy at the end.

As you see in the picture above at night, Hinata and Misaki get locked into a storage shed. The whole event kind of reminded me when Kyou gets locked in with Tomoya in Clannad. The only down side is that they don’t really do anything funny. Nevertheless, it was a pretty hilarious moment and it requires the awesomeness from Usui to save them.

You might be wondering, when Misaki is going to reveal the person she truly likes? It seems that she doesn’t have the self-confidence to admit it since she is a Tsundere after all. In addition to her indecisiveness, the rivalry between Hinata versus Usui and they fight with each other. It’s not likely that this rivalry between them will be solved until the very end when Misaki finally reveals for whom she likes the most.

In the end, it was a decent episode and it was pretty fun. The relaxation in the mountains was good on restoring the spirituality of the male students. Then again, they went girl crazy at the end, so they should really consider not giving such a heavy load of work compared to the females. Lastly, Misaki, just decide what guy you like already! It’s really not that hard to decide which boy you like considering you nursed Usui back to health and you are completely annoyed at Hinata. Then again, love is always difficult when it comes to tsundere girls and that is a fact.

Next Episode: Hinata finds out Misaki’s secret.

Verdict

8.5/10

Anime Digest: K-ON!! Episode 22 and Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 21

You might be asking, what these episodes have in common? They both feature sweets and junk food!

Over the course of last week, I kind of got caught up writing editorials, reviews and homework that I completely forgot about writing my thoughts about K-ON!! Episode 22 and Kaichou wa Maid-sama Episode 21. Since there isn’t really much to say about them, summing my thoughts in one post is enough to satisfy.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 20 – Yukimura and his Imouto

August 30, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Every young girl's dream is described in this picture!

Given that Yukimura lost the Footman Competition because of his lack of manliness, now his younger sister is now doubting his manliness with her preference for Usui as her Prince. This sounds so wrong in many levels. This date reminded me of Mei going out on a date with Tomoya to piss off her older brother. The only difference is that Usui didn’t go overboard by having Ruri call him “onii-chan.” If they did, Misaki would be angry at him for life for being a lolicon and his perversion.

Guess Who!

Remember Igarashi? He is that guy for whom Usui beaten up for nearly raping Misaki in Episode 8. He’s baaaaaaaack with vengeance! Basically, he wants to demolish the block of buildings that also include the Maid Cafe and build a fancy butler cafe to piss Misaki off. How does Misaki get back at this jerk? Why of course, participate in a Footman contest, but its for males only! Well, Misaki got a way.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 15 – Kanou Soutarou and Girls

July 19, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
It's very abnormal for a boy to act that way around a group of girls!

You would have thought that Soutarou would win this round with Misaki hating Usui forever. The spell did not work since Misaki stayed up from Usui saying irritating things. As a result, Misaki gives Soutarou the harshest punishment ever! Have him work with a group of girls, every boy’s dream, except for Soutarou.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 14 Impressions

July 9, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

Did Yukimura came out of the closet?

Well, Usui was tricking the woman-hater and we all know Yukimura is a great crossdresser as proven in the last two episodes.

Episode 14 was a enjoyable episode, but not much advancement. As we all know, Kanou Soutarou of Class 1-7 hates women. He is basically a genderbent version of Misaki, except that he is more violent. With the growing population of females attending the school, he fears this the most. He tries to take down Misaki who is pushing this trend, but it fails. This makes me think that this female hater is a bad guy. He really needs serious help to get rid of his hatred of women. If he can’t, why not go to a different school or be home schooled if he can’t deal with it.

As with Aoi-chan hypnotism of believing that he is an actual girl, Usui can never get hypnotized, even by that female hater. However, everyone else can because they were tricked into believing it. The female hater goes so far and places a spell on Misaki to hate Usui. However, Misaki sadly slept 5 minutes before the spell comes in effect… The result could be funny since Misaki is pretty much a tsundere when it comes to the relationship with Usui. In reality, Misaki loves Usui, but she doesn’t want to show it.

With the concern of Misaki and Soutarou’s spell, what will truly happen to her? Will she hate Usui or not? Not to mention, open house is the next episode and we know that Soutarou will try to sabotage Misaki’s plan. It makes me wonder on how it will turn out, especially that Yukimura is crossdressing yet again. Man, Yukimura crossdressing will probably top off Aoi’s crossdressing by the rate its going.

Verdict

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 10 – The Indie Idol and Sakura

Sakura fangirling again... Orz

Sakura, the fangirl of this Indie band… We knew this was coming by the preview shown in the last episode. Don’t worry, it’s a bit better than the mediocre Girls Dead Monster singles I reviewed. It seems like anime these days starting to include some sort of band. First Suzumiya Haruhi, next K-ON, then Angel Beats and now, Kaichou wa Maid-sama… I think I lost track now! :p

Sakura is really cute and innocent! However, does she deserve what coming beyond the horizon? We will find out!

Midseason Impressions: Kaichou wa Maid-sama

May 19, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

Reverse Traps? NO WAI!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama at first looks like a shoujo anime, but it is pretty different not because it had a maid cafe, but it didn’t contain one of those clichéd female leads in Shoujo Anime such as Fruit Baskets, which I gave up watching after one episode. Some view this as a satire of moe and maid cafes in general, but its pretty deep.

Misaki Ayuzawa isn’t like the clichéd, “mary-sue” like character found in the typical Shoujo anime. She is a strong character that has a lot of energy, which some may view her as not taking the traditional gender role as a female. This is reinforced in several episodes. First instance is with Aoi complaining that Misaki isn’t dressing like a female would and see her smack down some purse-snatchers. Another instance is when Misaki was held hostage by two stalkers and Usui have to end up saving her by distracting them. In the latest episode during “Ladies Days” when the workers at the maid cafe dress up like men, Usui reinforces the idea that Misaki is still a woman.

The issue is that she hasn’t gotten over the dislike of men because of what happened when her father left the family and left her family with all that debt. She gradually gets over the dislike of men, but it will take some time. At first, she had a strong dislike for men, but after driving the whole class boy’s away from their festival activities and bringing them back, she became less harsh. Even though she is less harsh, she still punishes them if they break the rules.

Usui is essential to Misaki’s character development. He could be viewed as the “Gary Stu” of the show since he seems to be perfect at everything such as cooking, grades, beating people at chess, jumping off buildings with a few bruises, etc. However, that is not the point. He pops out of nowhere and get Misaki annoyed, when though he loves and care about her. Misaki finds him annoying because her general dislike of men, but I know damn well that she likes him secretly with all that blushing. Would that make her a tsundere then? Perhaps. By caring about her, he tries to protect her from trouble and try to break dislike of men.

The overall premise of the story so far is Misaki getting over her dislike of men while protecting her reputation as Class President when she is secretly working at a maid café. Obviously, Kaichou wa Maid-sama is a satire of all the “moe” factors out there. I wouldn’t be surprised that maid cafes in real life were like this. However, people who work at maid cafes can be viewed negatively since it has some negative connections to Otakus. This is why Misaki wants to keep it a secret, although those three guys at a high-class school already found out in Episode 7. However, I wonder how that will pan out next episode.

Overall, Kaichou wa Maid-sama is unlike what I have seen in Fruit Baskets… It is an enjoyable shoujo romance comedy anime that has a deeper meaning on gender roles. Not flawless, though, but if you still on the fence on this… just do it, not just because it has maids, but for the story.

Kaichou wa Maid-Sama – Episode 6 – The Epic Confession

May 13, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

You know what happens next…

Having 5 guys obsessing over Misa-chan is one thing, but them wanting reveal her job is a bad thing. Misaki is so concerned about her image that if she reveals her job at a maid cafe, it would tarnish her image and reputation as a whole. Then again, who wants to reveal something as embarrassing as working at a maid café, wearing a maid outfit and serving 30 year old otakus for instance? Misaki has a image problem since she holds a position that is highly reguarded, revealing that she works at a maid café would make her a laughing stock.

Usui, on the other hand is simply amazing when he retrieves the photo of that has himself and Misa-chan as a maid. Just some minor injuries from that fall, but he will survive… Also, the picture in question…

Looks good on her.

I like girls with twin tails because they possibly mean they are a tsundere. Later in the episode, I also found her cute with rabbit ears in her maid outfit, although she doesn’t give out the good spirit.

Creepy….

I find these guys creepy not only because they look the same, but they also keep following Misa-chan. They are more obsessed with her than those three guys that are fans of her after finding out that she works at a maid cafe. They want to know everything about her: Cooking, Student Council Meetings, her fighting skills and even her part time job… I won’t blame them… They are nice, but they are a bit too nosy. If I were in Misa’s position, would I want a group of guys wanting to know about my whole life? I don’t think so, but then again… I can’t be mean to them since they aren’t bad guys to begin with.

Leading up to this moment, it was quite obvious that Usui loves Misa-chan, no matter what… Since Usui officially confessed to her, I wonder what will happen to their relationship and further development of Misa-chan and her loosening dislike of men as a whole.

Verdict

8.7/10

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! – Episode 3 Thoughts and Impressions

He didn't see this coming...

I can’t stop these flowers of moe!

From this… You surely know what will happen next… Filled with little sister tsunderes….

From the last episode, it was obvious that Misaki became less harsher from the last episode, but not completely. In this episode had less yelling on her part. She also saves the two males in the library with the falling ladder and hurting her arm in the process and said she would save anyone, regardless of gender. Of course, Usui patches her bruise up and also saying a really funny excuse to a girl who was confessing to him while he was looking at Misaki in the building. This excuse obviously cracked me up so much, and it is obviously not true… He said that he is a high-level otaku that loves maids than everything that he plays games about them and stuff and cross-dresses as a maid and leaves… Yes, highly unbelievable, but very funny…

wpid-wpid-maidsama-ep2-scr2.dpjDaduF1ypZ-2010-04-19-22-04.jpg
Yet... Misaki flips... just like a Tsundere would?

The highlight of the episode is obviously the “Little Sister Day” at the maid cafe where she acts like a imouto so perfectly with twin tails! Moe! However, everything changes when Usui comes and she tries to serve him and he becomes unreasonable that she flips out at him as shown:

Afterwards, Usui decides to leave and yes… she shows a different type of imouto… Tsundere little sister character? I laughed afterwards…

wpid-wpid-maidsama-ep3-scr3.z2ShdI03ehub-2010-04-19-22-04.jpg
Misaki is dere to the max!

Well yes, Misaki shows her dere side, complete with twin tails! Essential for tsunderes… :o. Overall, the episode was very entertaining and pretty good… Although Misaki seems to be annoyed at Usui at times begins to warm up and… yes, he picks out the color Misaki should wear on Setai Meido Day… Well, it’s white! From watching this episode, it surely has alot of moe that was parodied since this is a Shoujo Anime after all. From that, I leave this post with a picture of this bad-ass Misaki in a white meido outfit.

wpid-wpid-maidsama-ep3-scr4.C0hqweTxXpR0-2010-04-19-22-04.jpg
She is bad-ass in this outfit...

Last notes: As from the last episode, it seems that the group of three males who are fan of Misaki… well besides from over-obsession of her, one guy starts drawing pictures of her in meido… Luckily, she didn’t find out about that yet… or did she? :p

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 2 Thoughts and Impressions

April 11, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

wpid-kaichou-ep2-scr1-2010-04-11-23-01.jpg

Overall, this episode was alot better than the last and it had very funny moments including some boy scaring off girls with a face painted on his body, that caused him to be locked up in a room by Misaki. However, Class 22-2 proposals were too outrageous. Usui tries to convince her to do their last proposal, but the next day it gets shot down and they do a cafe. Usui comes to the cafe while Misaki was working and he seems to like the cat ears on her, but as usual, Misaki is annoyed. Also, about the guys who found out that Misaki is a maid.. well, they are her fans and she brings out this “moe moe rice omelet” and wrote annoyed on it. I was laughing by the way… While the preparations for the festival, Misaki was being too harsh to the boys and later when she was taking the trash out while she was working, Usui warned her that if she be too tough on the boys, they won’t listen and also another instance where the girls say Misaki should enjoy what she is doing in her job… This becomes a reality where she lashes out on the Class 22-2 boys which caused them to walk away and yes, Usui participated. She helps the girls who were struggling and suddenly after they see what she was doing decided to help in a appropriate manner. At the end of the festival, Usui finds Misaki and seems to have a interest in her… because, well you know…
wpid-kaichou-ep2-scr2-2010-04-11-23-01.jpg
Anyways, the whole premise of the whole episode was funny… Yes, there was somewhat less yelling, especially towards the end… but as it seems.. even though Misaki find Usui annoying sometimes, Usui seems to like her that much that he is a regular customer at this maid cafe… no matter what… and yes, she was cute with the cat ears and the maid outfit… lol… and how she lashes out was also funny, but then again… Is the second part of the episode evident that she is becoming less harsh to the boys… I don’t think it will stay once things go back to normal… Anyways… can’t wait what will be in the next episode since this is a pretty interesting story… and also funny as well.

Verdict

8.4/10

Kaichou wa Maid-sama – Episode 1 Thoughts and Impressions

April 4, 2010 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment

wpid-kaichou-maid-sama-ep1-scr1-2010-04-4-13-01.jpg

Well, an unexpected anime pretty much caught my attention. Traditionally, I hardly covered any shoujo anime, but heck, why not since this one has maids… Anyways, the episode was the first part was interesting, but rather slow. Misaki Ayuzawa, a rather strict president and the first female president at this school which was previously a all boys school, but now a 80% male and 20% female school (sounds like my old college I transferred from where there were mostly males and not that many females, being that it was a engineering and tech college). However, Takumi Usui, a really attractive boy with high grades and stuff catches Misaka working at a Meido cafe… and well, you know what happen… she becomes nervous and tries to drive him away, thinking that he was mocking her. One day after she was piled with alot of work was taking a break back of the maid cafe when she was caught by the three boys that she punished and… Usui saves the day and promises to keep her job a secret…

Overal, it was a okay episode, but not great since it was a little slow… Pretty amusing of course since it had maids and lots of them. However, the storyline is so similar to Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, except that it’s shoujo, no fanservice/ecchi, girl as the main character, not so lame male lead… and maids! I will probably keep watching to see what happens next, but this show will be low priority since I want to cover Angel Beats and K-ON 2nd Season first… So yeah, it’s not bad at all… Animation is ok for the most part with some… super deformity.

Verdict
