Hanasaku Iroha – Final Review

October 10, 2011 by Chikorita157 2 Comments

It’s a known fact that PA Works is well-known for their original productions.  In particular, True Tears, Canaan and especially Angel Beats had garnered a lot of attention.  Although their production values are great, the stories get a bit too ambitious mostly because of the length. This eventually caused them to get a bit off track from the original premise as seen with Hanasaku Iroha. (Image Source)

Tamayura ~hitotose~ – Episode 1 – How Everything Started…

October 5, 2011 by Chikorita157 4 Comments
Memories from photos are never forgotten...

Back in 2010 when the 4 episode Tamayura OVAs aired, the story felt somewhat incomplete from the lack of development of the other characters. Despite being short, the heartwarming feeling through its lighthearted story and gorgeous setting made the story really enjoyable.

With the first episode of Tamayura ~hitotose~, it retains the same aspects of the OVAs and expands on how Fuu got inspired to become a photographer and ultimately deciding to move back to the town of her childhood.

Fate/Zero – Episode 1 – Brief First Impressions

October 2, 2011 by Chikorita157 7 Comments
They make a fine couple...

As expected, Fate/Zero started with a bang in a massive, 48-minute first episode. From my experience, it’s the longest introduction to a story I have seen for the first time since I started watching anime. Considering that this episode is very long, I’m only going to share my overall thoughts in a brief manner with the assumption that everyone had already watched it.

Ikoku Meiro no Croisèe – Final Review

With the start of the 21st century, the so-called Iyashikei genre became popularized, especially with Aria through its gorgeous scenery, focus on friendship, and lighthearted feeling. I tend to enjoy them as it melt the stress from life that gives you a good feeling.

Nichijou and Kyoto Animation’s take on Creativity

September 20, 2011 by Chikorita157 11 Comments

In the past few years, the Slice of Life genre gained a lot of popularity. Many of these shows while similar have unique stories. As I explained in my editorial about the genre back in 2010, there is really no defined definition of what makes a show a Slice of Life.

In particular, Kyoto Animation has pushed few of the most popular shows of this genre.  Lucky Star and K-On has a huge following for cute characters, but both of them have two different premises. The former focuses on the anime subculture and the latter, the true essence of friendship. On the other hand, Nichijou takes a spin of the genre with less emphasis on characters and more on ingenious comedy (Image Source).

New Theme and Feedback

September 18, 2011 by Chikorita157 4 Comments

Since I decided to redesign the theme ahead of time, so I spent 6 hours making a new child theme.  And you might be asking, why are you changing the design if the old one is okay?

From April of last year, I created my first major theme based off the Thematic Framework. It took many hours since I don’t have a sufficient knowledge of CSS. Because of this, I had to play trial and error. Eventually, I liked the design and made several minor changes over the months. While the design looked fine, it had some quirks with the layout and such. Because I’m redesigning the theme and color scheme when my blog turns three years old next February, I may as well overhaul the backend of the theme.

When I was deciding on the theme framework to use, I didn’t want to use a free theme since these designs tend to get overused, especially the Twenty Ten and Twenty Eleven themes (especially with the sidebar removal being a pain in the butt). I made a decision to spend some money to get a premium theme that will last into the future. After looking around, I have chosen to use StudioPress’s Genesis as I can create a child theme like I did with Thematic and it’s not too outrageously expensive compared to Thesis. This new theme still uses the same color scheme since I haven’t come up with one with some noticeable changes, which makes it look cleaner. Of course, the theme itself reduced the need to use a few plugins like WP-PageNavi, which will hopefully take the load off the site. Also, I’ll be adapting this theme to Shiori’s Diary when this design gets finished.

If you have any suggestions on what I should add or change in the new theme, make a comment below and I will take a look at it. Besides from that, enjoy the somewhat new design!
