Gosick – Episode 24 (END) – End of the War and the Heartwarming Reunion

July 6, 2011 by Chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Stay strong Kazuya!

The war is finally raging, will Kazuya be able to pull through and see Victorique again? Well, the outcome is obvious!

Believe it or not, Victorique does look pretty with silver hair...

It wasn’t too surprising to see Brian change his mind and not kill Victorique. When she saved him after he fell off the cliff and got heavily injured, he reveals something about himself and his other twin. They are apparently exiled from the village for not having any Grey Wolf blood at childhood, which caused them to hate the world. When they saw Cordelia, their attitudes changed and they started treating her like their mother. This is the main reason both of them wanted to kill Victorique since Albert forced Cordelia to give birth to her, but decided not to since it will be against her wishes. While the deaths of the Brian twins were tragic, their sacrifices didn’t go in vain as they want Victorique to live and carry on her mother’s existence.

And, they lived happily ever after...

As for the ending, Kazuya and Victorique finally reunites in Japan after several years of the “war” (not WWII) , which was really heartwarming. What amazes me is how she was able to find her way to Japan and the place where the Kujo family was taking shelter. At least he came back looking handsome and mature compared to that stupid crew cut he had during the war. Otherwise, I would be disappointed.

As for Victorique’s silvery hair, it looks mysterious, but pretty nevertheless.

Final Thoughts

At first, Gosick had a rough start since the mysteries were shallow. It wasn’t until Episodes 13-19 is when the mysteries became interesting as they reveal the hidden and dark secrets of Sauville and the show started being more like an adventure story. For me, the early 20th century setting made the story feel interesting since the science and technological thinking started to take over the old ways of thinking during the time.

On the other hand, there were a few things in the show that were missing and felt rushed. While Brian Roscoe twins explain what happen in their past, there is still some things that remain a mystery about them such as their parents and how they learn to perform magic. Also, Cordelia faces this to a certain extent, but her motivations to protect her daughter and plot revenge against Albert was already obvious.

In comparison, Victorique and Kazuya were well-developed. In the beginning, she used to be incredibly harsh towards him, but it changes gradually as she starts to show romantic feelings towards him. Kazuya also shows this towards her when he wants to protect her from harm and the desire to see her again, it shows the power of love triumphs the desolateness of war even though they are apart. While I was sort of let down with the lack of kissing at the end, watching them walk into a grassy field while holding hands while he said last few words were heartwarming.

Overall, Gosick became a rather enjoyable adventure show with some mysteries. While I have watched it mainly for Victorique’s cuteness, the supporting characters managed to bring a certain amount of appeal to the overall story. Also, Bones did an excellent job capturing the setting while bringing some rather eye-catching animation.  If you can get past the first half and enjoy adventure with some mysteries, I say go for it as you might enjoy the show.

Overall Rating: 8.7/10, B+, Very Good
