After the surprise first lesson, Misaki throws the girls into their first audition. Yes, even on the first day. You might be wondering, how well did the girls do, particularly Haruna.
If you can tell from the surprise lesson, it’s obvious that Misaki wants to give the girls the first-hand experience of auditioning for parts. This time, the girls will audition for a girls’ sports anime that focuses on a dodgeball like sport set in the future called “Bloom Ball.” I find it funny how Muryozaka Keiko, the mangaka slept before waking up for the last set of auditions while her editor is hard at work on her laptop.
Of course, only a few of the girls seems to have some familiarity with the source material, namely Maika. While they are given material as reference for what part to audition for, it’s not too surprising. Of course, the show has a huge cast, which I can see why Misaki thought it is a good idea for the girls to give it a try. Not to mention, there is the chance that a few will make the cut if the girls fit the part.
As expected, Haruna seems to have some difficulty figuring out what part to audition for. While Naruna has the thought of trying out for the main character, the hot-headed Midarezaki Hibana since she feels that it fits her the most. This is despite not being familiar with the source material
Of course, she has competition since there are probably many people trying out for the role since, Hibana is a main character. Of course, Maika tries out for Higuruma Tsubaki, another main character since she liked this character and wanted to voice her. Still, I find it funny how Rie chooses the role to audition for with her third eye. Her Chuunibyou tendencies never fail to impress me.
As for Maika’s performance, well it started off rough as she bumped into the mic trying to say the lines, causing her to lose focus. Despite this mistake, she continued. It’s not too surprising to see this happen since each voice actress has varying degree of nervousness. It’s just like with job interviews as one wants to give their best performance. After all, it’s how well they do depends on if they will get the job or not. Same thing here as the creator along with some other people will figure out which voice actor/actress fits the role the best for a particular character.
As more people audition, Haruna looks through the reference materials along with other characters. She eventually decides on her original decision to try out for Hibana’s role. While her performance started off well, it petered out after Haruna choked.
Of course, Haruna’s performance catches Keiko attention that she directed Haruna to voice other lines of other characters. While it’s uncommon to see this happen, it seems that Haruna seems to have more versatility despite not knowing much about the other characters. I guess Haruna might have a leg up on possibly landing one of these roles compared to the other girls of AiRBLUE, but it’s not for sure.
At the end of the day, Maika and Haruna stopped by a café to talk over their first day. Yep, Honoka and Shiho are there. Yep, they mention how nervous they were, but it’s natural. Of course, Haruna smiled as she took her first step. However, it’s only a small step since she hasn’t received a role yet. Still, I think Haruna needs to gain more confidence as she got to experience something that most first timers haven’t. Yes, reading so many lines of various characters in their first audition. Either way, we’ll see if any of the girls made the cut or not.
Hope most or all the girls get to work together but most likely only a few may be chosen. We’ll have to wait.
I would love a girls’ space dodgeball anime.
Yes, it’s a sad reality given how competitive those roles are, but I wonder who will make the cut.
I think it can become an interesting idea for a show, for sure.
