Now that Shiki shined as she was the center for Liella for the festival last time, the focus is on Natsumi and her little sister, Tomari. You might be wondering why Natsumi is leaving early for some reason, but we learned why their relationship is strained.
As expected, Liella’s performance festival was well received, and of course, Shiki, being the center, and Mei received a lot of their performance last time. It’s funny how Shiki was looking at a tree while three students praised their performances. Of course, Keke doesn’t like how they like the other group.
Of course, the elephant is in the room, and Ren knows that each school can only have one group. In other words, Yuigaoka students must choose which group will make it to Love Live. Perhaps Kanon is doing the magic behind the scenes to coax Margarete to join Liella along with Tomari? After all, if she wants to win, she should join the winning team, right?
Meanwhile, Kanon gushes over the New Liella’s performance, which gets Margarete annoyed. Also, they don’t know what is up with Tomari as she suddenly shows up, and Magarete thinks she is a spy for being related to Natsumi. Things get awkward when they run into the other members, especially Tomari, running into Natsumi and the rest of the Liella members. She asks if Natsumi intends to continue to be a school idol. Natsumi, of course, wants to continue, but of course, her little sister doesn’t seem confident that Natsumi’s dream has any point. That is when Tomari runs away, and Natsumi suddenly disappears.
Of course, Shiki has a tracker on Natsumi, as Liella followed them. Margarete reluctantly tagged along, and they ended up in Ibaraki and eventually at Natsumi’s house. I find it funny how Shiki activates that alarm to make sure it’s the rice place, and well, yes, Natsumi came out for sure while making a ruckus.
As you can tell from the beginning, Natsumi finally reveals what she is hiding all along. In the beginning, Natsumi, as a child, was crossing out a list of failed dreams while being upset. Tomari, of course, watches her older sister seem worried as Natsumi said there are not many dreams left. There is more to the story.
Natsumi seems to go after dreams that are hard to achieve because they require natural talent or height. She aims high to impress her sister but gives up shortly after. After all, if one wants to fulfill a realistic dream and something that one wants to do, Trying to pick a dream that she can’t achieve without putting in the effort and giving up causes Tomari to lose faith in her and even worry about her future. Natsumi didn’t do a good job managing expectations, which led to disappointing Tomari every time.
Eventually, Natsumi becomes depressed as she can’t achieve any dream, as she doubts herself. She believes she has no talent and feels that she has no aspirations. That is until she realizes the only thing she can achieve is money. That can explain her obsession with money, but if you recall, she even has trouble doing gig economy jobs. Her “YouTube channel is not doing well, and she lost money in the stock market. However, she found one thing she is good at, being a school idol and also brought a win for Liella.
Of course, Tomari doesn’t believe Natsumi that her school idol’s dream will ever come true. After seeing her older sister become broken after giving up on many dreams and becoming upset after the last failure, she lost faith in her. However, Natsumi talked to her, and it was because Natsumi was afraid of seeing Natsumi lose her smile as she started to regain it from being able to make money. Tomari is scared of her older sister losing that smile, which can motivate her to become a School Idol and why she wants Natsumi to give up on her current dream.
While Kanon wants to intervene, Keke and Chisato hold her back. Still, Kinako seems amazed by how many dreams she has tried to make. Of course, she states that Natsumi gave up too quickly as she didn’t go through the hardship before starting to achieve her dream. Like Shiki said, you won’t get a rainbow without rain. Natsumi simply needs to keep working towards her dream and never give up, and she will eventually pull it off.
Eventually, Tomari got a message from her older sister. She ultimately went to the stage as Natsumi and her 2nd-year friends on stage in costume. Natsumi, of course, thanks her little sister for loving her smile. She revealed that becoming a school idol allowed her to realize what it means to smile from the bottom of her heart, and that made her happier than money could bring. As they say, money can’t buy happiness; it only buys the special things in life.
In short, she wants her little sister to keep watching her as the rainbow comes out. Hopefully, Tomari can regain faith in her sister so Natsumi can achieve her dreams without getting hurt. Tomari feels relieved, confident that her older sister won’t get hurt again. Still, this will be the big setup for merging the two groups into Liella. After all, there can only be one unit that can compete in Love Live.

Love Live! Superstar!! 3.4: The Sisters Cash
- The Yuri Empire
Learning the truth about the Sisters Cash was eye opening. Natsumi’s struggles are very relatable and why she gave up on dreams until school idols showed her the light. She also deserves praise for not giving up for so long.
Tomari’s a good imouto deep down. Hopefully now that she understands how serious Natsumi is she’ll lighten up her stance on school idols.
