Now that Margarete’s unit has performed on stream, it’s Chisato’s time as it’s Liella’s turn to perform at the festival. However, Chisato wants a 2nd-year student to be the center, perhaps the shy, blue-haired science girl.
From last time, Margarete’s unit performed last time on stream. While it got a lot of praise from the singing and Margarete’s smile, which shows herself at her best, they didn’t make it. It will be hard to overcome Margarete’s negative reputation because she said terrible things after losing Love Live last time. Is she turning a new leaf? Sure, she returns to her tsundere ways as she gets upset over Tomari for not showing up during practice. Time will tell if she warms up to the idea of joining Liella. After all, Love Live will probably have this rule that only one unit per school.
Of course, Liella, under Chisato’s leadership, has competition as they read the comments about Margarete’s unit. Sure, they didn’t make it last time. Everyone in Liella worries that Liella is forgotten as Keke panics over Margarete’s unit, which will steal the attention. The idea of Margarete’s unit being Newella is kind of funny. Of course, Chisato says they must do even better than Margarete’s group now as they aim to win Love Live again. Still, Chisato felt that there was still a bigger goal despite winning it last year. Thus, they want to put on even better performances.
With that in mind, Chisato wants the 2nd years to have the attention this time and choose someone who is not the center yet. Of course, Chisato thinks Shiki should be the one who can breathe fresh air. However, she is unsure if she is up to it, despite Mei encouraging her. Natsumi, of course, leaves Mei, Shiki and Kinako early for some reason. I wonder why.
Eventually, Shiki saw Kanon and Margarete practice, which got everyone’s attention. Eventually, during practice, Chisato wonders how Shiki will look as the center. While it looks good, Shiki faints from being overwhelmed by the bright spotlight. Eventually, Shiki feels that she is not up to being the center after all, as she causes a diversion activating the drones that show an animation of Yui ga Oka’s mascot, Yuigao, a fairy of some type. It’s probably the first time we have seen it for a long time, as Ren gets excited. Mei noticed that Shiki escaped while sending the texts and that she couldn’t do it.
It’s evident that despite Shiki being a bit more open since joining Liella, being the center of attention is still too much. Mei thinks so, as she never asked for it but still tried for it. While Mei believes it’s a good idea, it may be too much. Chisato was about to consult Kanon but decided not to as Mei took Shiki to Mei’s house.
While Shiki is not against it, she thinks it’s impossible. She feels she can’t be in front of others, although she is okay with Mei. It’s when she sees Kanon practicing and everyone noticing that she can’t and will cause problems for everyone that hold them back from their goals. Understandably, this is a road too far, as Shiki is simply not used to being the center of attention. But are they really going to change who will be the center?
Mei eventually consulted about what happened, but Shiki returned to her old ways. They finally realize they can’t force her to be the center, and Chisato comes to that conclusion. Even so, she believes Shiki should still be the center, even if she doesn’t stand out or can’t draw people. Given that Shiki’s color is white, it’s clear, but it doesn’t stand out. With that in mind, Mei feels that she can pull it off.
I admit the moment Mei goes to the science room to convince Shiki to reconsider is probably the loveliest moment. Mei says she will be the shade to help draw people in with Shiki. In other words, Shiki can be herself and doesn’t have to stand out as a center. That is while she shows the song she wants to write with her, one about the infinite number of colors in the world. Seeing Mei grab her hands as she tried to create a new stage for Liella together was nice. Also, it was nice to see the rest of the members waiting at the classroom doors.
As for the performance itself, Kanon, Magarete, and Tomari went to it. Sure, Shiki was nervous, but of course, Mei assured her that Shiki would be by her side to support her and that it was okay for her not to stand out. Either way, after Shiki performed, she realized this is what it’s like being the center in her own way. It really shows that anyone can be the center in their own way. That said, Mei and Shiki are, of course, some of the best pairings in Superstar.

Love Live! Superstar!! 3.3: The Doctor’s Light – The Yuri Empire
This episode was everything. ShikiMei/MeiShi are everything. My heart was fulfilled by their love and incredible performance.
Dr Shiki may not stand out on her own but her aura was strong enough to power up everyone, especially her girlfriend who is a crimson goddess in her eyes.
