With summer around the corner, it’s time to share what I plan to watch this Summer along with some blog updates/state of the blog. As expected, the list is subject to change.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S
Studio: Kyoto Animation
Air Date: July 8, 2021
While the second season announcement is been a while, it took four years to finally come to this point. Most of it has to do with that unfortunate event in 2019, which delayed things a bit. Still, it’s nice to see the sequel finally it come into fruition. While I look forward to more moments with Tohru and Kobayashi along with Kanna and Riko of course. Also, it will be interesting how Iruru’s appearance play out.
Of course, there was a lot of controversy over Iruru’s character design. To me, this is just first world problems and complaining about shows they don’t like or wanting something to become outraged. To me, I just ignore this stuff since it’s not worth complaining about. Also, I think people should use this energy to fight for actual social justice (e.g., racial equality, stopping anti-Asian violence, voting rights, fighting for LGBT equality, etc.) in real life instead of complaining about entertainment.
Magia Record Second Season
Studio: Shaft
Air Date: TBA (Summer 2021)
In a surprise announcement, the second season of Magia Record is airing not next year, but this summer. I would have thought that it will happen next year due to the pandemic. Apparently not since the second season is happening this year. Then again, it’s not too surprising since the Madoka Magica franchise turned 10 years old this year.
Either way, I expect the second season to get a bit interesting. Hopefully Yachiyo will somehow reunite with Iroha. Also, it will be nice to see more of Touka and Nemu of course. Still, I hope there will be that ice cream date with Iroha and Yachiyo as shown in one of the Memoria. I guess I can only speculate. Aside from that, I wonder what role Kuroe will play in the second season. We’ll find out soon enough.
Love Live! Superstar
Studio: Sunrise
Air Date: July 11, 2021
I must admit that I never finished Nijigasaki since I was covering 5 shows last fall. In short, I will eventually finish it before the second season airs next year. Aside from that, Superstar is another generation group, but with only five members. Of course, all of them being first year. Either way, it should be interesting how the new group develops.
Given that I am covering a lot this season, I probably won’t cover any other shows. As expected, I still do not know when I will return to the office, although I plan to telework two days a week when that time comes. With that, I will only cover these shows in addition to Blue Reflection Ray. However, I may watch the following, but not cover on this blog due to lack of time:
- Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!
- Shiroi Suna no Aquatope
While these are 2-cour shows I believe, I may share some thoughts in the monthly digest posts about them.
State of the Blog and Blog Updates
As expected, I’m simply not happy as the blog is not off to a great start this month. Likes are surpassing comments, which is a very bad thing for the fact that I disabled it completely. I’m becoming frustrated by the lack of interactions through comments. I hope that it would improve a bit as the last 5 months seems promising. Still, people haven’t listened not to leave likes through WordPress.com Reader.
Readers do not realize that the likes they put through WordPress Reader will not show up on my blog as I completely disabled the system. This is mostly due to likes lessening the incentive for readers to leave comments. As mentioned already, there are spammers who abuse the like system.
I want to make this clear. We have no plans to ever enable likes on our blog. Moreover, I’m not using the likes metric as it’s not a reliable indicator for reasons shared earlier. After all, people can simply click the like button without reading the content and spammers abuse it.
While the likes system is gone forever, there are other ways to show that you liked our content. You can do so by leaving a comment, liking the tweet when a new post comes out or retweet our tweets. Please respect my decision by not using the like button on WordPress Reader for any of my posts.
Update: The WordPress Reactions system now replaces the WordPress Likes system, which allows readers to give their reaction anonymously and not allow readers to abuse the system just to advertise their blog.
Lastly, we plan to finally commission art for the blog’s mascot sometime this year, likely in the fall. I need to finalize the character design and then find an artist to commission the artwork. More details forthcoming.
With that, this pretty much all the shows I plan to watch in addition to ongoing shows from spring. Feel free to share what shows you plan to watch in the comments.
I’m thinking that I might skip summer seasonals to catch up on other animes instead, but I completely forgot that Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S is coming out, so I might watch it.
Kobayashi Maid Dragon shouldn’t disappoint. Of course, I have a good number of shows that I still haven’t finished, even a few from the past few years. I will get to them eventually.
As usual the shows you picked are some that I did too. Plenty to look forward to next month. Let’s get ready!
Yes, the summer season should be exciting for sure.
Kobayashi-san S looks promising but may I suggest you give All Road Leads to Doom season 2 a go? I enjoyed the first season and reckon you may like it too.
I will also watch Magia records but am thinking of also giving Jahy-sama a go as the summary reminds me of The devil has a part time job anime which was a pretty good anime.
I do feel this season appears to have less stand out anime than the spring season but perhaps there will be hidden gems that are yet to be discovered.
I haven’t watched the first season of that show, but I will eventually get to it. Aside from that, the Summer season at least for me is pretty packed, not too surprising given the delays last year.
