Hikari finally starts school at Chidori High School. Her disappointment settles in when she heard the news that the Rifle Club is being disbanded. What will she do?
As expected, Kokura Hikari is your cheerful but ditzy first year high school girl. She is friends with Shibusawa Izumi who helped her with the entrance exams. She is friends with her since elementary school. This not too surprising since she is the opposite of Hikari and enjoys reading books. At this point, they are probably more than best friends.
When Hikari tried to turn in her application form, she finds out the club is being disbanded. This is not too surprising since rifling isn’t a popular sport, especially for females. Thankfully, Izumi recognizes two girls at the entrance exam that can become potential recruits. Believe it or not, these are girls that Hikari and Izumi competed with. This includes Meinohama Erika, who is kind of annoyed that she lost against a no-name girl. I find it surprising how Hikari manages to defeat her, but lost in the next round.
With that, Erika is willing to join only if they will take the sport seriously. Sure, Hikari is ditzy and lacks the desire to study, but when it comes to rifling, she is serious. She wants to be able to participate in the Olympics with everyone.
With that, Erika decided to join. Not only that, Igarashi Yukio who won the junior competition also joins too. Of course, she thought that she and Hikari have things in common. This is until she saw her chest size when they change to their outfits used for rifling. Still, it’s nice how the club being disbanded drama is taken care of relatively quickly.
The second half focuses on the girls practicing rifling. Apparently, the girls use laser rifles to shoot a target. I understand that people confused the premise of this show as a bunch of girls being a bunch of gun enthusiasts. In fact, this show has nothing to do with that and more on shooting sports, which is an event in the summer Olympics. This can explain the localization title change as people will confuse this to the crazier gun advocate organization in the United States.
With that out of the way, there are some funny moments. Erika is actually a rich lady and decides to give Hikari her old shooting coat and pants. The funny thing is that she likes the pink one. Also, she seems to like how it smells like Erika. It’s quite obvious that Hikari might have some interest in Erika although she is somewhat a tsundere.
Overall, the first episode is enjoyable. While I won’t be covering this weekly, it should be fun to see how the girls work hard to aim for their goals. Most importantly, I wonder how the relationships between the girls will develop from here.
Really cool that the show, as far as I know, holds the world record for “fastest club formation in a Girls’ Club show”.
Hikari X Izumi are so precious.
Looking forward to seeing the rival teams.
Yes, Hikari and Izumi is otp, but I want to see how Hikari and Erika develops. But yes, it should be fun to see what the girls do next in terms of activities.
