Yagate Kimi ni Naru – Episode 12 – Touko’s Dilemma on Who Should She Become

December 22, 2018 by Chikorita157 1 Comment
Everyone is surprised by Touko’s emotions in her peformance.

After overhearing what Touko sharing what she learned from Ichigaya about her older sister in a conversation with Sayaka, Yuu becomes curious. It’s only a matter of time until Yuu will ask.

If you recall from last time, Touko learns the cold and hard truth about her older sister, Mio. In reality, Mio is not diligent, but actually a slacker at heart. Her cool personality was just a “mask” when she is around her younger sister and interact with anyone else. This obviously bothers Touko since she wanted to become like her. While everyone becomes surprised by Touko’s practice performance with all the emotion she put into it, Yuu becomes curious. Even Ichigaya notices this when Touko doesn’t perform her lines with the same emotions.

Obviously, Sayaka is bushing Yuu off. This is despite Yuu making an effort to get along with her a few episodes ago.
At least the play is going well as planned.

Somehow, it seems that Sayaka is hiding what Touko learned about her older sister. Understandably, Yuu is annoyed and she wants an answer. Sayaka obviously can’t hide it as Touko will eventually tell what happened to Yuu.

Yuu begs Touko to come over to her house. It’s apparent that she wants to learn what happened during the camp.

After the summer camp comes, Yuu asks her to come over to her house after the train passed by. She is worried that Touko won’t hold up her side of the promise they made and that she won’t be able to see her for a while. After all, Yuu didn’t fall in love with anyone else, so it’s best for Touko to return the favor.

Besides the dramatic moments, there are some nice moments like these, besides the kiss.

I have to admit that this time, Touko is not as flustered like Tomoko did when she is at Yui’s house for the first time. With that, Yuu, brought up ice pops. Touko laid on Yuu’s lap and eat it. Afterwards they kissed.

After the kiss, Touko told Yuu what she learned about her older sister. She found out that the person she wants to be is completely different. Now, Touko doesn’t know who should she become now that Mio is not that person.

I actually commented thinking that maybe, Touko will be herself now that her plan to become like Mio failed. It seems that Yuu has the same idea. Yuu while with Touko on her bed questions her if she “really have to become someone?” Of course, in Touko’s eyes, the answer is yes. After all, she doesn’t like her shy and timid personality along with being just an average and weak girl. She believes that if she doesn’t become someone, she won’t be able to love Yuu the way she does now.

Obviously, Yuu had enough with Touko hating herself that she has to do something.

Still, it’s interesting that she says that she can’t be in love with “someone who likes the things I hate.” Obviously, Yuu knows what Touko hates the most, her true self. Touko really doesn’t want to become the shy, weak and timid girl she was before her older sister’s death. Still, Yuu seems to like Touko’s true self, even if it’s not the person Touko wants to become. Not to mention, all this self-loathing can’t be healthy at all.

Somehow, Koyumi agrees with Yuu’s sentiment about the script.

With that in mind, Touko wants to change the ending against Touko’s will. It seems that Koyumi agrees since she had reserved feelings about the ending. Yuu wants the main character to decide what she wants to become from the experiences during the time in the hospital, not on her past self.

In other words, the main character would combine her recollected memories instead of selecting a mask. In other words, becoming close to her true self. From this, it makes me wonder how will Touko react and how the play will end. We have to wait and see in the finale.
