Since Dog Days 2 Episode 3 isn’t coming out anytime soon, I want to focus on a show that has been talked about quite a lot in the blogosphere. That show is Kokoro Connect.
Needless to say, I didn’t initially decide to watch this show since I wanted to focus more on the backlog. However, that kind of backfired since I had too much free time and therefore, lacked stuff to write about. When I read through the reactions for Kokoro Connect on Twitter, I may as well have a try since I’m only watching three shows now.
From the overall premise of the show, it looks like a normal slice of life show with three girls and two boys. Underneath it all, the body swapping is what literally makes the show a comedy gold mine. At random times, members in the Cultural Research Club could subconsciously switch bodies with another member and hilarity ensues. When I saw this happen to Iori and Taichi, it reminds me a lot of Natsuiro Kiseki episode 5 where the “troll” rock grants Yuka’s wish and she switches bodies with Saki. However, it’s taken to another level as the members can potentially do nasty things when they are in another body. After they switch back, the actual person feels the results.
On the other hand, the show kind of feels like K-ON with it’s art style, similar uniforms and Iori, which almost has the same voice as Yui since she’s voiced by Toyosaki Aki. The big difference that I liked about her is that she is not ditzy, but rather energetic and has a somewhat perverted mind. Also, I find it funny that Taichi is the only pro-wrestling fan I have ever seen in Anime. This makes me believe that pro-wrestling is not all that popular in Japan but I might be wrong. Still, I giggled when he switched into Iori’s body and checked out her assets. It’s a typical, yet amusing response.
Based on what I have seen from this episode, Kokoro Connect has a very good chance in becoming one of the most entertaining comedies of the Summer Season like Natsuiro Kiseki last season. The idea of using body swapping as the main theme has the potential to show us something really crazy. With that, I can’t wait to see what they have in store in future episodes.
It’s amazing how much this show is making me think about the concept of the “soul”. It’s actually quite interesting…
I agree and I wonder how they will develop the characters though soul swapping. Perhaps they will learn more about each other when they in another body? Still, it’s still pretty interesting how they will use this in future episodes aside from the comedy aspect, but more on potential drama.
