Amagami SS – Episode 17 – Rihoko Sakurai’s Arc Part I – The Unlucky Childhood Friend

October 30, 2010 by Chikorita157 4 Comments
She looks so innocent... but so guilty for breaking her diet.

Well it’s a new arc and the focus is now on Rihoko for whom she is a very unlucky childhood friend of Junichi. Unfortunately, Rihoko’s love towards Junichi seems to be unrequited even though they are best friends. I wonder why?

I have to admit… it is hard for me to get out of bed especially in winter considering how cold it is. As a result, I wake up a bit too late and I have to rush to my classes. Rihoko is exactly the same as she is unwilling to get out of bed. Since she couldn’t get out of bed, she was late to school. She had to use the hole in the fence as a short cut so she would be on time for school. Unfortunately, she gets stuck because of her butt and had to get Junichi to pull her out.

Obviously Rihoko’s clumsiness and innocence is what make her character rather enjoyable. In addition, her love for food pretty much adds to her cuteness. Unfortunately, she became a bit conscious about her weight. She thinks that her weight is one of the reasons why Junichi doesn’t love her.  She tries so hard to stay on a diet and exercise, but her love for food is keeping her back.

Personally, I don’t think Rihoko is overweight at all. Sure she is a little chubby, but its not like her metabolism isn’t burning enough of her fat. It’s a sad reality with most girls in today’s society. It seems that the media these days puts the emphasis on mostly thin figures that are very attractive. Because of the media, girls think that they are still overweight even though they aren’t in reality. Sadly, this leads them into harmful eating disorders like anorexia (refusal to eat) and bulimia (Eating the food and then throwing it up).  It’s always best disregard what society thinks about your appearance. Just be proud of being yourself since stuff like this can ultimately harm someone.  If one still wants to diet, it’s best to practice a balanced diet and exercise every day. This is the only true way to maintain or lose weight.

Towards the end of the episode, there is a flashback with Junichi, his sister Miya and Rihoko as a child.  They have this magic trick with Junichi wanting Rihoko to become a princess or a delicious “meat bun”… It also features Miya’s laugh as a child, which I found pretty funny and cute.

I think Rihoko arc is going to be pretty entertaining considering how cute her personality is. Also, I probably know how the arc plays out with Rihoko trying to get better at physical activities while maintaining a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables.  Junichi will eventually start to have feelings for her and fall in love. Well, that is my assumption considering that I haven’t played the visual novel. Hopefully this arc will turn out good unlike the last one.

A Meat Bun... A Meat Bun... Nishishishi.

In fact I’d go even further: she’s just a little chubby and thanks to that, Rihoko is really my ideal type. Seriously, I like a girl like her, with a little meat. Not in excess, but a girl like her? Great.

Mah, I try not to get too serious about this stuff, but it’s true it’d be a little sad, especially given that Rihoko is a really nice, cute and funny girl, if this arc was all about getting her to lose weight or something like that. It’d be nice if Junichi just told her she’s alright the way she is and fell in love with this sweet osanajimi of hers.

    And nishishishi-nikumanMiya is irresistibly cute!

Its pretty sad though since appearance is everything on outside. What matters is the personality of the person and appearance second or third. An attractive girl can be exploitative.

Yes, its sad that its probably going to be about her losing weight, but look on the bright side… Loli Miya… Nishishishi~

I have a hunch that this isn’t really going to be about her losing weight. It’s going to be about her learning to be happy with herself just the way she is. No basis, no spoilers, I just have that hunch.

She was probably the girl I noticed most easily when this show started because she’s like an… anti stereotype, an attractive girl who well.. let’s say she’s very cuddly. Cuddly works? Cuddly’s great! She’s really sweet. Anyway, she’s not the stereotype of small waist, wide hips, bountiful bust… and as such, she’s a more realistic girl.

Albeit still a clutz but that only makes her more adorable, ne?

Clumsy girls are really cute and petty funny… This is a primary reason why I enjoyed Kobato while those elitists hated it… Figures…
