General Thoughts

Well, I have been enjoying what Amagami has to offer in the last 11 episodes by how Junchi is being a big pervert and Miya punishing the crap out of him for doing so. However, this review is not going to be about the shenanigans that happen between Junchi and Sae-chan. No, it’s all about Sae-chan’s overly cute ending theme that spells moe out in 10,000 words.

There has been some talk in the blogosphere that Konno Hiromi’s performance of the ending theme is even worse than Hirano Aya and Toyosaki Aki combined. Well, considering I have listen to her past music, namely Ai wo Torimodose, I have pretty low expectations since she did not perform that well in the single and it was an absolute mess. So, let’s drive in and see if this single is a success or a bust.

For the first song, we have Anata Shika Mie nai, which was the ending theme for Sae’s arc. While I like the instrumentals since they sound pretty classy and appealing, it was a bit too loud. As a result, it overpowered Konno Hiromi’s vocals, making them somewhat difficult to get what she is actually singing. It’s like Go Go Maniac, but without the screechiness and the messiness. Since her vocals were in a high pitch, it also contributed to the difficulty of getting what she was singing. Moreover, there is really not that much expression comes from her sing, but at least it’s not bad as LiSA. Otherwise, it’s a pretty mediocre song, unless you play the song with the instrumentals only.

The B-Side, Keeping Smile is a calmer song. Compared to the last song, Keeping Smile was a bit easier to get what she is singing. Conversely, the song felt a bit dull compared to the first song. The song is listenable, but you might fall asleep from listening to it mainly because Konno Hiromi still has a lack of emotion that contributes to its dullness.

On the second disc, it contains two background songs used in Sae’s arc. They were pretty nice to listen to. Lastly, there is a character monologue that I won’t even mention since I don’t really know Japanese to get what she is saying.

Overall, I can say that this Anata Shika Mie nai is a pretty mediocre album. Besides the instrumentals, Konno Hiromi performance was so and so. It was neither bad nor good and I have to admit, it is not the worst album I heard so far. Girls Dead Monster far disappointed me than this or any of Toyosaki Aki’s songs combined. I rather choose that over Girls Dead Monster. As for Konno Hiromi singing being worse than Hirano Aya and Toyosaki Aki, I think she is just below those two in terms of singing skills and has room for improvement.

I had to admit that the ending song sounded pretty cute though…

Overall Rating

7.0/10, Average – Background/Instrumental Music Only
5.8/10, Failure, Songs with Vocals

Gave it a shot earlier this afternoon and I’d have to say that I’d rate it worse than you did since the biggest issues lies in her singing voice. Or rather, the complete lack of a singing voice. The animation accompanying the ED might have been cute, and turns an annoying song into something barely tolerable.

I’ll probably put my own thoughts down for it once I get the time this weekend, and this one sounds like a fun album to review, albeit for wrong reasons, but eh.

Yeah, from the flatness, she doesn’t really have a singing voice, even before this ending was out and she was singing for Lucky Star singles,.. After listening to her, I took the song off the playlist…

As for the rating, I am lenient, but feel free to rip it even further in your review. I’ll be sure to read it… 😀
