Finally, the second season of Ika Musume has invaded the blogosphere with the first episode. Of course, if you interested in watching this show and haven’t watched the prequel, I highly suggest doing so before jumping right in or you can get lost pretty easily.
Like in my previous posts of this show, I will split the post into three parts on each sketch showing by brief thoughts about it.
Part I – Return of the Status Quo
Once again, Ika tries to execute her plans to take over the world. Sadly, it fails as usual since Chizuru believes in the Status Quo! This makes me wonder… why did she even tried knowing that she has to work at the Lemon beach house for the rest of her life? Even so, she enjoys it and doesn’t make a big deal about it.
On the other hand, this part did a good job in reintroducing the characters considering that it was a long time since the first season’s finale.
Part II – Sanae’s Jealousy
At last, Kiyomi makes a visit while bringing her friends to meet Ika. For Sanae, she became very envious of her since she could never get the same treatment. I’m surprised that Sanae is still obsessed as she tried to kick the habit by doing cold turkey back in the first season. Perhaps, if she acted normal around her, Ika would probably not hate her that much… Then again, she is a masochist for her, so it’s good.
Part III – Cindy’s Jellyfish Cheating
Jellyfish stings may look painful, but a contest to remove from the shore is definitely a good idea. Believe it or not, this was the funniest part of the episode not because Ika failed to use a heavy-duty bag to hold 10 pounds of jellyfish, but the return of the MIT mad scientists. Apparently, Cindy took a jellyfish and used a duplicator to create more than 6 full bags to win the contest. Although it doesn’t help solve the problem, the idea of going that far in order to win was simply hilarious. I just felt that the effort they applied could be used for something far important. Things like cancer research or colonizing other planets in space.
Other Thoughts
While I haven’t listened to the new opening, it’s nice to see that Sphere is singing it. This is a big contrast to the previous opening from the first episode as it was kind of, you know. Furthermore, the squid puns that Crunchyroll adds in were incredibly lame. Because of this, I’ll just wait until another group releases to avoid it like the plague.
Ohhhh man the start of this episode was amazing! I remember that scene in the manga where Ika was watching a invasion movie ahaha good stuff! And the subber went wild with the squid jokes well I got mine from kindofhorrible subs.
I really enjoyed this episode it really jumps right back into the comedy and Ika is so damn cute. Yeah those science characters are probably the worst characters in this series…I wish they would go away, and we got new characters! Amazing <3
For the first season, I apparently used FFFpeeps and I don’t remember any lame squid puns… so I’m guessing that the groups that decide to use the CR rips is the horrible ones. Underwater is a group that you should avoid or any CR rips as they use the heavily, botched up localized script.
Yeah, the scientists are the worst characters… but they are sometimes funny as seen in the 12th episode from the last season… maybe it’s because they are making fun of the United States, particularly MIT graduates, but whatever.
