Octavia has officially sworn her loyalty with the Gaels after realizing that she will never change the empire and wanted a different outlook in life. Since then, Lydia wants to resolve some unfinished business with her
With Octavia looking after Conal and Elil, she is a very responsible babysitter while they look up to her as a role model. Knowing that the empire is at large, she tells them not to leave the castle without adult supervision. This is common sense since they are so young and they aren’t able to defend themselves if they get abducted. Even so, they felt the need to repay her with the secret delicious mushrooms and went out during the night. This is where things got a bit ugly with the kidnapping of Elil.
I understand that Morgan is concerned about Octavia since they are friends. Unfortunately, Morgan got a bit worked up about it because Octavia is covering up her encounter with two empire forces. While it’s clear that she doesn’t want to tell since it could harm the children and/or cause panic. Still, I felt that she should have told her so she can help. On the other hand, Morgan’s feeling of doubt was misguided. She should have asked Octavia in private if she was that concerned. Either way, it was resolved when one of the children is kidnapped and they have to save them.
During the Gael’s revenge attack on the Rubrum forces, we learn a bit more about Octavia’s relationship with Lydia. Apparently they are both from nobility and used to be best friends, which is hard to believe since Lydia always wants to harm Octavia. From the flashbacks, they had fond memories of being together during their childhood and training for the Imperial Guard. Octavia didn’t finish her off in the duel since she didn’t want to kill her best friend. Sadly, Lydia took it the wrong way and felt disgraced that she can never forgive her. Following their fight, Octavia finally confesses her feelings for Lydia and sadly, she passed away. It felt like a tragedy that could have been prevented if only she didn’t misinterpreted the reason Octavia spared her. Nevertheless, it will be difficult for Octavia to recover from the death of her friend given her love for Lydia.
Besides the hints of yuri between Lydia and Octavia, their relationship was pretty interesting. Don’t get me wrong; Lydia is crazy not because she became disgraced, but her hidden romantic feelings for Octavia made her this way. It’s also fascinating how their friendship simply fell apart through this this misunderstanding. Hopefully, Octavia won’t feel too down with her loss of her best friend since she still has Morgan on her side. From this, we can expect some more yuri in the future.
