From last time, Flum and Sara are trying to get some herbs to help cure an illness of the requester’s wife, but they got chased by a ogre whose face was warped. Since Flum doesn’t have enough stats to defeat it, she decides to escape with Sara down a hole. However, they discover something pretty disturbing.

While Flum and Sara fell down the hole, at least they are still alive. Of course, they explored the facility. After Flum touches a lamp, it reveals something disturbing. They eventually find a laboratory with tubes containing what looked like monsters or demons. Also, they discover the same swirl symbol that Flum and even Sara have seen on monsters. However, that surprised Flum as she accidentally threw the torch down a pit. That pit reveals a pile of corpses, so disturbing to Sara. She basically tells her not to look at it.

They eventually find a book that looks like scripture, which offers clues about who is behind it. It gives some clues about the motives behind the lab. That is when Flum turned to a page written in spiraling letters, and it apparently knows Flum’s name. It makes you wonder why. After all, the reading of the ogre with the swirl face tells Flum to pay for her sins. Why would it say that Flum committed a sin? Is it something dealing with religion, perhaps?

Eventually, Sara hears cries for help. They ultimately followed, which led them to a pristine room with columns. When Flum came up to the crying lady, the woman acted weird, saying, “Found you,” and had the same swirl-vortex face. The lady pulls one of Flum’s arms into her face, trying to suck her in. Thankfully, she had Sara use her healing magic to allow Flum to escape, and she was able to get her equipment back. Of course, it’s not made any better with the swirl head ogre finding them.
In a Hail Mary, Flum took Sara back to the pit to find some cursed weapon. Yes, Sara saw the corpse, but at least Flum found a boot that lowers stats by 2000 and freezes the user. This boot, in turn, raises her stats by 2000 and gives a freeze effect. They, of course, find it at the luck of the draw as that ogre has appeared. Basically, she has Sara put up a shield of some sort until Flum has enough concentration to pull off some Cavalier Arts, which uses Prana, a fluid and smoother power than magic that increases the power of attacks.

It seems as if Flum managed to defeat the ogre, but sadly, it wasn’t enough. She has to believe in herself and find her resolve, despite not having a decent life so far, to keep pursuing her goal of making Milkit happy. The interesting thing is that she shatters a core that the ogre has with her sword. However, another ogre appeared, and Flum and Sara are already at their limit. That is, until someone uses magic to defeat that one easily to get the swirl orb.

Apparently, this demon lady, Neigass, has very high stats. She apparently knows Flum, but is surprised that she sees a slave mark on her face. Apparently, we learn what we already know. It becomes apparent when Sara tries to attack Neigass, as she considers demons as a force of evil. As expected, Sara doesn’t realize who the perpetrator is behind the villages being burned down. Not only that, these demons don’t necessarily kill humans, as even last time, when they had to fight humans, they never finished the party off when they were at a breaking point.

That is when Neigass revealed the obvious. The Church of Origin is probably not only behind burning down villages to increase the ranks, but also behind the shady experiments. In particular, the swirling vortex orbs make monsters more dangerous. Sara admits that she notices something fishy after reading the notebook and seeing the Church’s symbol on the ceiling. Also, do you find it weird that monsters want revenge on Flum as killing them is apparently a “sin.” Of course, a Church will mention sins and tell people to repent for committing them, which, in this case, involves defeating swirl vortex-faced monsters.
Yes, it’s the case of the “light,” or the Church is not always good. We have seen it with demons and magical girls, and a particular church that hires executors to kill people with specific abilities. Now this time, we have a church that wants to become a dominant religion, has its people depend on it, while seeing demons as being evil. That is why sending off parties of heroes to try to defeat monsters with faces of swirl vortexes.

Apparently, Neigass is looking into what the Church is doing with the experiments, and also into the Swirl Vortex cores. Flum allows her to take the broken core as well. That is, Sara finds out that Flum, the one she is with, is the hero one, but now doing her own thing after a certain sage sold her off to slavery.

Still, it’s cute how Neigass has an attraction to Sara now that she changed her view on demons. That is why gathering herbs to save someone is against the Church’s rules. With that, they found the herb they were looking for as Milkit waits for Flum and Sara to return. It will be interesting to see her reaction next time.

@chikorita157 The shows been pretty consistently good, with some neat reveals along the way.
I do think they could have cut the “the hero is a donkey” beginning. Show would have been just as good if she had been sold by anyone and the cursed sword reveal would have worked just as well.
(That said I am kind of disappointed the sword wasn’t more of a copy of Stormbringer.)
