Today, it’s Lilisa and her friend’s turn to prove themselves against the rich boy band Bacchus. Well, the results are surprising, or perhaps not this time.
Before the actual performance, we have a flashback. Lilisa was in the music room with her friends and Alice. Lilisa, Otoha, Tina, and Shiraya couldn’t come up with a good name. Alice, of course, has something

As expected, Lilisa and her friends out of the gate eventually had a good start this time around. The music is catchy and interesting, so the audience eventually enjoyed listening to it despite the lack of vocals. It’s musical nirvana to them as they get into the music
Sure, Otoha, while playing questions herself as to why she is performing at the audience’s pleasure instead of her pleasure, despite Lilisa saying she has to do it to win. After all, she only played the drums by herself. Of course, Lilisa reminds Otoha that the reason they are playing in public is not to win or for the crowd, but to play the music they want to play. In the end, their band wins over the cloud, after which Lilisa gives the band its name.

Well, Naoto probably lived to regret this, as not only is his band’s manager quitting, but the live house owner bans him from ever performing there. I wonder if Bacchus’s lack of sportsmanship and acting like losers will lead to the huge following they have built up being lost. It may be the end for them. With that, Lilisa and her friends do their encore as Bacchus is defeated.

After the performance, they head to a place to celebrate. Of course, Lilisa and Otoha talked a bit as Otoha wants to do another performance. Yep, she became a concert junkie. However, Lilisa knows that they only won this time because they came prepared. There is concern that it will be challenging to maintain it, as Otoha considers adding vocals and inquires about the band’s instrumentation. Lilisa said she decided on an instrumental band as she believes in it, as it feels good. She wants to attract more viewers to change their preferences. After all, Lilisa believes that meeting Otoha changed her, as she is the only one who gives her pleasure. With that, Otoha promises to stick it out to the bitter end, as Tina and Shiraya are waiting for them; they decide to celebrate their first win. That is before fireworks start, and Otoha says they will make it to Fuji Rock.
Final Thoughts
Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite is an interesting and fun girls’ band anime. Sure, the idea of rich ladies playing rock music doesn’t quite fit the image of what they do. Still, it’s interesting to see Lilisa reconnect with her love for guitar and rock, which she is forced to give up for her mother’s sake.
It’s interesting to see the band come together with two other young ladies joining. Although they faced some setbacks, they eventually managed to win over an audience. Sure, the 3D performance took some time to get used to, but the music is surprisingly good. It’s not too surprising, as the instruments and body movements of the musicians playing the music come from the band’s members, who performed the opening for the anime. As expected, there are some nice yuri scenes you would see in a Class-S genre anime, along with some, well, you know.
That said, it will probably be a while if a sequel happens, as the anime likely covered a lot of the manga, which was released a few years ago. I wouldn’t mind seeing more if it gets another season greenlit.

@chikorita157@chikorita157.com Seemed like there was extra effort put into setting the atmosphere for that final scene.
Overall, some interesting aspects but a bit uneven. I liked that the Lilisa/Otoha dynamic references how notoriously volatile partnerships in rock bands can be. Using actual mo-cap of Band-Maid was also an interesting angle.
Thematically, the high-society vs rock band contrast could have worked, but the academy felt too anachronistic and over-the-top for me to really buy into. I also thought the stakes for the Bitter Ganache battle dissipated a little to conveniently.
