At long last, after Ajisai confessed her feelings to Renako with Mai being around, Renako still feels conflicted on which girl to pick. That is why Mai is losing confidence in herself, wondering whether she is worthy of Renako despite dating her first. That is why Kaho finally gets the spotlight as Renako notices her in an old photo.
After Ajisai confessed, we learn that Renako suspended the confession as she considers whom to pick. Renako talked with Mai on the roof as she feels conflicted. After all, she likes Mai, but she also likes Ajisai’s kind personality. She is unable to make a decision, and she lets Ajisai get carried away and confess to Renako.
When Mai said she was never an official couple with Renako, she still couldn’t give a proper answer, as she doesn’t understand love stuff. After all, she admits that she doesn’t even love herself, as she runs away because she is afraid of being hated. She is worried that one will lose out. Not to mention, Renako feels she is still pretending to be extroverted, despite being an introvert and lacking confidence in herself.

Eventually, Renako is absent from school for a day. When Haruna wanted to show pictures of a younger Renako, Renako became upset as she didn’t want to show her former self. Eventually, Haruna discovered the group photo of Mai, Renako and Ajisai. After answering the text message that Renako will return to school tomorrow, it’s evident that Haruno doesn’t want to see Renako go back to her old ways. That is when Renako saw a photo of herself with a light-blue-haired glasses-wearing girl.

As expected, when Renako showed that photo to Kaho, she basically took Renako somewhere before she started acting weirdly, wanting to hit her with a rock. Eventually, Renako manages to bring Kaho back to her senses, and Kaho wonders whether the girl in the photo is actually her.
In reality, it’s actually Kaho, and she seems happy that Renako hasn’t completely forgotten about her. Apparently, the lack of glasses, her new family name, and personality really threw Renako off. What is interesting is that Renako was the one who introduced Kaho to anime and manga during cram school, which led not only to her developing an interest in them but also to her getting into cosplay. Renako already knew this, given that she saw her cosplaying a character with Satsuki.

Of course, Renako told Kaho about her trouble picking Mai and Kaho. Kaho isn’t buying it, since she thinks Renako is a normie and Renako self-deprecates herself. I find it funny how Kaho ends up headbutting Renako. Still, it’s evident to her that Renako has a self-confidence problem, as she is afraid of hurting Mai’s and Ajisai’s feelings, depending on who she chooses. Funny how Kaho makes up with Renako after she gets angry at Satsuki.

You might be wondering what Kaho does to make up to Renako. It has to do with Renako’s self-confidence, as she needs to do something to improve it. Funny how Renako runs away despite Kaho offering her money to do it. Funny how Renako ends up hugging her PlayStation 5 and sleeps with it in bed.

The funny thing is that when she woke up, the PlayStation 5 console wasn’t with her; it was on the floor and wouldn’t turn on. I find it hilarious that Renako uses her PlayStation 5 to comfort herself amid life’s difficulties. Still, seeing her hug it and sleep with it is no wonder it broke. She is going to need that money and take up Kaho’s offer.

As for what Kaho wants Renako to do, she wants her to cosplay as a bunny girl in a maid outfit for a photoshoot with Kaho, who will cosplay as a cat girl maid. It’s a coincidence that the characters in the video game look like Renako and Kaho. At a glance of Kaho’s closet, her cosplay interest is probably close to the same level as Marin’s, as Kaho has several elaborate cosplay outfits.
When the photoshoot came, it didn’t quite go as well. Renako is not that confident being dressed as a fictional character and having her photos taken. After all, it takes a lot to cosplay as a different character, and it’s not too surprising Renako puts herself down, although the lady thinks Renako did a decent job.

Of course, there is a lot Renako has to improve in the next event. Kaho gives her various recordings to help Renako build her self-confidence. I find it funny how it actually affects her, making her start acting like Kaho. It’s funny to see Haruna’s reaction to seeing her older sister say that she is cute no matter what. Seeing Renako so outgoing with Satsuki creeps her out. At least with this personality, she was able to get through the event with flying colors, with some lovely photos. I find it hilarious how Renako freaks out after her makeup is removed, and she says some embarrassing things. At least she had fun doing it, as she wanted to improve her self-confidence after all.

In the end, Renako did get the money she could use for her new PlayStation 5. Also, Kaho took her to what looks like a love hotel, which is quite funny. It’s a fancy hotel they went to, where Renako learned how Kaho got into cosplay. She also finds out that when Kaho takes out her contact lens before getting into the bath, she becomes an introvert. She admits that she becomes an extrovert when she wears contacts instead of wearing glasses.
When she got an offer to participate in a special cosplay event featuring 8 trending cosplayers, she seemed nervous, given her lack of confidence when she doesn’t wear her contacts. Believe it or not, Renako tries to convince her since her fans would become disappointed if Kaho didn’t participate. She eventually changes her mind and decides to do it, but, of course, Renako has to join, as Satsuki is not available and participants need a partner.

Also, we see Renako asking Mai and Ajisai to go somewhere together—basically, some kind of date. Renako went through the trouble choosing an outfit, but only Ajisai showed up at the amusement park. It’s evident that Mai bailed out, but at least Renako had fun with Ajisai on rides, including a Ferris wheel, where they kind of kissed. Well, Ajisai kissed Renako’s finger since they aren’t a couple yet. Still, Renako will remember that feeling of someone kissing her finger.
That is why Mai shows up at Satsuki’s apartment, realizing that maybe Renako is better off with Ajisai, since Mai feels Renako loves Ajisai more. After Ajisai told Mai that she kissed Renako during the amusement park “date,” Mai already decided to give up, even if Renako got close to Mai first. Ajisai started crying, as this won’t probably end well.

As for the big cosplay event, apparently, one of Renako’s friends is there. I find it funny how she gets upset at Renako after seeing her, and she gets into a tense rivalry with Kaho. The funny thing is, her partner is actually Satsuki, who refers to herself as “moon.” The funny thing is, she ends up losing and takes Satsuki’s clothing with her, leaving Satsuki no choice but to keep wearing her cosplay outfit.
Of course, Renako becomes nervous and wonders why she is there. I know it takes a lot of self-confidence not only to cosplay, but also to appear on stage. It doesn’t get any better when Kaho accidentally steps on one of her contact lenses that she accidentally dropped. While Renako was willing to run to get her backup contact lens, Kaho was about to give up, as she couldn’t win with just one.

Basically, she becomes like Renako, losing all confidence in herself. Even so, Renako doesn’t want her to give up after headbutting her. She still wants to go out there and go down with the ship rather than give up. She doesn’t want Kaho to regret giving up the moment, being on stage at the perfect moment, and Renako will be with her. After all, Renako doesn’t want to run from the feeling she loves.

In the end, they didn’t come in last, which is a good thing. But then again, it’s not bad given that Renako is doing it for the first time and the event is. Of course, Mai drags Ajisai into a cosplay photo shoot before Mai is supposed to go on stage. Mai isn’t sure about doing the event because she feels it will mess up her performance, while Ajisai doesn’t believe it will. Ajisai comforts her. She knows that if Renako doesn’t make a decision, Mai will return to France and never come back.

Eventually, after Mai finished her speech on stage, Ajisai wanted to take Renako on stage. She doesn’t want to, while Ajisai and Satsuki tell her to do it, and Kaho pushes her to do it. After Ajisai told her that if Renako doesn’t answer, Mai will never come back. The answer Renako gives to Mai, while Mai already decided that Renako should pick Ajisai. However, Renako shared how she feels, and obviously, she doesn’t want to lose Ajisai or Mai, as she loves them both. Sure, Ajisai panicked over Renako picking her and not Mai, but she gives a curveball that she wants to go out with both Mai and Ajisai, as she doesn’t want to be normal anymore.

Sure, it takes a lot of courage to say she will date both of them. It really shows how much Renako grew when she first met Mai. I felt that perhaps Kaho dragging her to cosplay helped Renako not only build her self-confidence but also love herself. The last part is essential; if she doesn’t, she will continue to avoid answering while giving reasons she can’t. The fact that she wants to go out with both shows how much she loves both of them, even though she usually dates only one person. Mai mentions the challenge, but Renako doesn’t seem to mind.

Still, it’s funny how Kaho doesn’t like the idea of Renako going out with Mai and Ajisai at the same time that she headbutts her. At least Renako finally got her new PlayStation 5, as Haruna returned her photo with Mai and Ajisai. The funny thing is, Satsuki texts Renako as she wants to get in with the love with her harem. Yep, I guess Renako has to probably try to keep three or perhaps four girls happy who want a piece of her heart.
That said, with Kaho’s arc finally done, Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Naijan, Murimuri! (Muri ja Nakatta!?) is an interesting yuri genre anime because female harems are not that common. Also, it’s interesting to see how Renako overcomes her insecurities as she connects with each girl and learns more about their true selves and their own insecurities.
Still, it’s nice to see all four girls getting their stories hashed out with some rather good presentation. Not to mention, some funny moments as well, especially with Renako hugging her PlayStation 5 when Kaho tries to ask her do a favor, which is quite amusing. I admit, it’s an interesting take on the yuri genre, as most of the stories I have watched so far are just about a girl falling in love with another girl and perhaps a rivalry of some sort. It’s definitely worth taking a watch if you want the yuri harem story you’re waiting for.
