Last time, Shiori decided to expose Miko, as a rival is brewing. Miko hates Shiori because she believes Shiori will take Hinako away from her. Well, the backstory behind Miko gets a bit interesting.

The apparent reason why Miko transformed is that she doesn’t trust Shiori and sees her as a threat to Hinako. After all, Shiori ultimately wants to eat Hinako herself. Shiori doesn’t like Miko as she thinks Miko will take Hinako away and eat her.
Well, the whole episode is basically about Miko herself. Hinako is the one who became Miko’s friend after Hinako’s parents and older brother died in a car accident. While Hinako is living with her aunt, a younger version of Miko says she is Hinako’s friend. She basically shape-shifted into a younger version of herself in human form.

Believe it or not, Miko was one of those man-eating yokai. However, after a monk captured her, she had to help the people in her area. In a way, she has to change her ways, although she resented them at first. In short, she became a deity in the area that Hinako’s family visited frequently. Of course, her parents prayed that Miko would keep them safe on their trip. Sadly, we know what happened. Still, Miko feels the obligation to protect and keep Hinako alive as her parents wished, despite being unable to save her parents and their son.

Sure, Shiori doesn’t trust Miko and doesn’t want Hinako to trust her after her backstory. That said, Shiori is no better, as she shows her clear intention to eat Hinako no matter what. At least it’s easy to sympathize with Miko, given the promise she made with Hinako’s family and her duty to protect Hinako after failing to save her family as a path to salvation. The only reason she is absent is that her vitality depends on how many followers she has, which haven’t been great lately.

Still, given how close Hinako is to Miko and the connections to her family, it’s hard to say no. With Miko transforming back and closing her mouth when she is close to Hinako, it makes you wonder what happened afterward. Is it really over for Hinako? What Shiori will do, or whether they can settle their differences, is what we have to wait and see next time.

Despite the dramatic moments from Miko’s past, at least there is a funny segment at the end. Like with Miko, Shiori can change her form too. She basically showed herself as an adult lady who appears like an office lady and a younger version of herself. The funny thing is, Hinako would prefer Shiori’s usual self. Still, it was interesting to see Shiori’s other two forms.
