After Ruri, with the help of Shoko and Aoi, managed to repair a crystal radio, Imari got a pleasant surprise. She won tickets to a hot springs, inviting Nagi, Ruri, and Shoko.
During lunch, Ruri is really enjoying her ice cream. Funny how Shoko reminds Ruri still has dinner to think about, as Ruri is grateful to be young and thanks Imari and Nagi for the trip. Of course, they went to their hotel room, and they seemed amazed by how big it was, along with the interior design.

That said, Imari seems eager to explore the inn as she drags Nagi to explore it. Of course, Ruri and Shoko changed into yukatas as they decided to explore the inn. They eventually run into Nagi and Imari, who show them a doughnut-shaped white rock and ask what it is. Of course, Imari finds her, and she drags her off somewhere else.

Ruri and Shoko went around looking for the rock that resembled a doughnut. Eventually, they find a clue that involves some pipes lying near the inn. Nagi and Imari came up and realized Ruri and Shoko had found the origin.

After Nagi explains how hot springs are formed, the water itself contains water that interacts with magma that comes up to the surface. Given that the water contains minerals, it will eventually build up until it reaches a point where it needs replacement. Ruri realizes that there is rock in the hot springs water. Given that it happens every few months, it takes a lot of effort to maintain a hot spring, considering the frequent buildup. Still, it’s pretty impressive how these rocks appear.

Of course, Nagi revealed that she had turned down a job offer at a museum, as she wanted to complete her research at the university. Sure, Ruri seems surprised by Nagi turning down such an opportunity since there aren’t that many. Of course, Nagi wants to become a professor at a university. But given how Imari mentions that there aren’t many opportunities in mineralogy. It’s not too surprising, but it’s good to see them remain enthusiastic for the future despite the difficulties that lie ahead.

At night, they gaze up at the starry sky, watching as shooting stars appear. That is when Nagi asks if they want to catch a shooting star. Believe it or not, when they come down to earth, meteors become a very tiny rock that can be found on roofs, gutters, and pretty much everywhere. After gathering them, Imari bought out the microscopes. Believe it or not, it was interesting to see what the girls found, until Ruri eventually found a strange-looking round rock. Yes, she found the only meteor. It was interesting to see how it looks, as it has a unique texture, but it is still round.

At the end, Nagi and Ruri sit in a field as they look at a sunset. Ruri shared how her interest in rocks has evolved; she is now primarily interested in beautiful stones. It’s interesting how she has developed an appreciation for them after learning more about them and still wants to continue studying them. After Nagi asks if Ruri is having fun, she said she is, and it’s fun to learn more stuff. It does show that much Ruri changed when she wants a necklace because it has a pretty rock on it. It’s interesting how she even drags Aoi into rock-related activities.
Final Thoughts
Ruri no Houseki is an interesting anime featuring young women and high school girls engaging in various activities involving rocks. The show is essentially an edutainment program that delves into the details of minerals and geology, presented engagingly with excellent visuals. Believe it or not, the same studio, Studio Bind, that produced Oniichan wa Oshimai, also created this show. It does feel familiar in the animation, and some of the scenes demonstrate the attention to detail that went into the show.
Of course, while some can be turned off by Ruri being a brat, at least she has grown and actually becomes an enjoyable character as she develops her curiosity in learning more about the pretty rocks she finds.
Also, it’s nice to see the growing cast with Imari and Shoko joining the cast, as well as Aoi, Ruri’s friend, who only appears in a few episodes and takes part in the activities. Of course, it’s undeniable how attractive Nagi and Imari are. It is very apparent when Imari has Nagi try out various outfits, including that maid outfit. Surprisingly, Aoi is well-endowed compared to Ruri and Shoko. That said, Ruri no Houseki is definitely worth checking out, as it’s a very enjoyable CGDCT show that focuses on rocks.
