Sure, traveling can be a fun and expensive hobby of visiting various places. There is one inspiring mangaka who feels a bit frustrated. She decides to go on a whim trip to forget her frustrations, which eventually becomes her new hobby.
Chika is a struggling mangaka who is trying to serialize her first manga. However, after reading her latest manuscript, she was lying in bed. After looking at a TV show, she gets an idea from a TV show about some guys rolling the dice to decide where to go. In short, Chika created a poll to determine where to go, and depending on the results, she selects a location to travel to.
After visiting various places, she gets interested in traveling. She, of course, goes on trips with her friends, Koyomi and Yui and eventually her fellow mangaka, Riri and Fuyune, in various parts of Japan. Eventually, she embarks on research trips, which ultimately inspire Chika, culminating in one of her one-shot works being published in a magazine.
In a sense, this feels like Yuru Camp, but instead of camping, Chika visits various and popular parts of Japan and stays at hotels and inns. Yes, there is narration explaining some interesting facts about the attractions she visited. All modes of transportation, such as trains, buses, and boats, are used to get to their destinations. What I find interesting is that sometimes, the trips are not perfect as they take the wrong bus or forget to make a reservation.
That said, the characters are enjoyable. Sure, Koyomi and Yui are best friends for Chika, but of course, Chika and Koyomi make a good pairing. I like Koyomi’s energetic personality, complete with cute fangs.
Riri and Fuyune are also an interesting pairing. While a few years older than Chika, with Riri seen drinking during her trips, I think they make a nice pairing. Sure, Fuyune gets into a disagreement with Riri and goes on a journey with Chika. What I find interesting is that it’s all a misunderstanding. Funny how Riri finds Fuyune and Chika at the same temple. What is interesting is that Chika uses this as the basis of her one-shot manga based on the misunderstanding Riri and Fuyune go through, which, of course, feels like a yuri manga.
That said, Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey) is a fun and laid-back anime. It’s fun to see the girls’ journeys unfold as they take various trips around Japan and visit the tourist sites. Sure, it will give some inspiration for those who want to visit Japan, but it’s also lovely to see the girls’ adventures. Sure, it’s disappointing that Chika and Koyomi didn’t go to the beach to have fun and not tease them by wearing swimsuits, but at least it’s nice to see a tanned Koyomi and the reactions to girls eating delicious foods. Also, I find it funny how the narrator is the smiley face badge on Chika’s beret all along. If you enjoy shows like Yuru Camp (and also mono), you will probably enjoy this one.
