It’s a typical day in Japan in the future. What happens if you get taken to activate an unproven 7G network? What can go wrong?
After a high school girl named Nakatomi Yoka left the station in Ikebukuro, she was kidnapped and taken up to the top of a building. Yep, she was the 77777th person. She is lucky to activate the 7G network faster than 5G, 6G and 7G. The guy touted this technology as Japan’s comeback with tons of technology crammed into 7G and can tap directly into the thoughts of one’s brain for an Omni-device approach. That part should be very suspicious as to why 7G would need to tap into one’s brain.
As expected, Yoka seems hesitant to push the button after the countdown until she is pressured. However, the world got weird before she stopped pressing and tried again. Now, the world is entirely warped, which makes it evident that people didn’t think the whole 7G thing through. Sure, there are baseless conspiracy theories and misinformation about 5G, and nothing happened after it launched. Whoever worked on 7G went over the top into dangerous territory. Somehow, Yoka survived.
Two years later, Hoshi Nadeshiko, Kuga Reimi, Shinonome Akira, and Chikura Shizuru are still some of the remaining humans in the rural town of Agano. It’s a run-down town with growing plants; almost everyone has become talking animals. A certain someone will have a field day with the number of animals in the rural village.
Also, I'm sorry… what?
I'm trying not to spoil it, but the plot of the first episode of Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku involves animals. Lots of Animals! :meowlove:
As expected, the gyaru Remi and the serious Akira disagree over food. Remi refuses to eat insects because they are not cute and would rather eat rice and bitter melon. Of course, Akira calls her delusional, which doesn’t end well here. When Remi is about to punch Akira, Nadeshiko has to split them up. Yep, Nadeshiko is the girl that keeps the group together. Sure, their parents still act like themselves, but when the bear tried to lash out at Nadeshiko to try to maul her down for food, Shizuku punched it.
While Shizuru had a meeting about the career path, does that even matter? After all, the girls talked about possibly turning into animals and didn’t get to choose. However, Shizuru can’t stop thinking about the moment she argued with Yoka in a flashback. Basically, she ran away from home. We don’t know why they fell out, but can they make up? Also, why she ended up in Ikebukuro?
That said, a delivery from a delivery gave some clues. Funny how they are highly militarized and deliver supplies. Sadly, Shizuru didn’t get any clues regarding Yoka’s whereabouts. Besides the books Reimi wanted, she is obviously into magical girls. Of course, the delivery guy seems to be unhelpful. It looks as if they are too worried when Shizuru has the CQC skills. After all, she beat down a talking bear about to maul Nadeshiko.
Of course, the newspaper under Nadeshiko’s potted sweet myrtle brought some clues. The newspaper is from two months ago and has a photo of Yoka. They showed it to Yoka’s Guinea Pig grandmother, who cried. Still, it’s sad when Akira says Guinea pigs die after five or six years. Yep, Remi and Akira really don’t get along.
However, Zenjiro, who acts strange, gives some clues. After she has Pocchi, a Shiba Inu looks for the hat on the train. It’s funny how the dog didn’t turn into the human that Shizuru had expected. The Zenjiro turned normal after putting on the hat. He says that he has to stop a guy known as Pontaro and his 7G plans. He knows a bit too much after wanting to end it, but eventually, he reverts back. Shizuru really needs him to operate the train.
Of course, the girl panics when Shizuru decides to go to Ikebukuro, as she is willing to take a train. Of course, Nadeshiko, Remi, Akira and Pocchi tagged along. I am surprised that Shizuru can operate the train without training. Maybe she played some Densha de Go beforehand? We’ll see what this train leads them to, and I wonder if they are prepared for what lies ahead. Also, the show sort of gives Kakkou Kurashi vibes as well.

@chikorita157@chikorita157.com I had to mention @anianimalsmoe toot about this show in this post because there is a lot of animals. Probably only in this episode, maybe.
@chikorita157 That sounds hilarious! 7G (if someone doesn’t know, G just stands for generation, nothing more fun than that:)) is a fun mcguffin.
But “won’t eat bugs because they aren’t cute” is just straight up hilarious! The normal reaction tends to be that people don’t want to eat “cute” animals.
This looks worth picking up.
(Side note, wish there was a good way to tag shows easily. Like genre and how to watch it. Figured out after a little bit that it’s on Crunchyroll :))
7G is no joke, and I wonder if that guy who created it is like Space Karen.
Considering that humans turned into humans, maybe eating animals may not be a great idea, you might be eating your friends or parents, despite how cute they are.
Should be interesting to see your thoughts on it if you pick it up.
@chikorita157 (I assume turning humans into animals?)
Planning on picking it up. Haven’t been in a good place lately, so difficult to concentrate at times means less viewing. 🙁
Does sound like an interesting setup. It’s one of the things I like about anime. I like creative ideas.
(Anime also suffers from a ton of tropes, but everything does:))
Glad you enjoy the first episode. Apparently, the animals is only happen to one town, so I expect the souther areas will be different from what I’m hearing, but it should be interesting to see those other areas in the upcoming episodes.
@chikorita157 I just want more episodes now! I’m down in the dumps and could use it.
