You might wonder what you will get when you combine Carole and Tuesday, Blade Runner, and Kamen Rider. You get this show. That is people’s impression, although I didn’t watch any of those.
In the beginning, we see a white-haired guy stealing a supply of smuggled nectar. Before long, the show introduces a cyberpunk aesthetic city as this is actually Mars and humans actually settled on it. Yes, it’s used as a recreational drug, but it’s also a power source for those humanoid robots called Neans. Rouge witnesses a man robot gives the only nectar source to a female Nean. We find out what happens to him soon.
We discover what happens when these robots run out of that fuel source. They get thrown into the trash heap as they are useless. At the same time, Naomi Orthmann, who operated the bird that talked to Rouge, watched it along with Rouge. Apparently, they are on a mission as Rouge is working at a strip bar where Sarah sang. She doesn’t know if Sarah is the target as the man’s name with her seems familiar.
Shortly after Sarah worked back and put nectar inside her, a red figure appeared as it walked towards her until the guys shot at him. Of course, that robot kills the three guys. Sadly, Naomi got the bird she was controlling killed by the nectar-stealing guy. Not to mention, that red figure is in the news. You might be wondering who it is.
Eventually, Naomi met up with Rouge. Apparently, Rouge has no recollection of who she is. At the restaurant, Naomi seems surprised that Rouge doesn’t know who she is as Naomi gives clues that she is the bird she controls. It’s somewhat apparent Rouge might have lost some of her memories or didn’t know the bird was Naomi all along. She couldn’t recognize that red figure.
Naomi’s cheerful personality can make her and Rouge an exciting pairing with two women with opposite personalities. We find out why they are looking for Viola. Naomi suspects Sarah is Viola since she injected herself with nectar, meaning she is one of those Neans (a robot) and one of the Immortal Nine. It makes it evident that they are on a mission to eliminate them. Yep, Rouge finds out with Naomi’s glasses that it’s actually her after zooming in on that footage and seeing Sarah inject herself.
Rouge eventually confronts Sarah. Yep, Sarah met that guy who mimicked that red figure. It’s Hell Giallon. Believe it or not, the red figure is actually Rouge, or her true identity, Metallic Rouge. Yep, Giallon basically tried to fame Rouge for the murders by mimicking him. Believe it or not, he is that guy who stole the smuggled nectar. He talked with Viola beforehand, too, which is obvious this was a setup in an attempt to defeat Rouge. It’s too bad she didn’t beat him as he got away, but he is probably one of those Immortal Nine.
The first battle with Viola is interesting but shows how Rouge fights in her armored form. Of course, Naomi assists her by analyzing the enemy’s move until finding the right moment to go on the offensive. As Viola unleashes two large frame throwers, Rouge manages to leap behind Viola and deal the finishing blow.
While it’s easy to feel bad that Rouge and Naomi brought down one of the Immortal Nine. After all, she just wants to have a successful singing career and not deal with this. Sure, it’s easy to feel bad for her, but she is one of the bad guys.
While nobody knows Rouge’s personality yet, I like how Naomi hands Rouge a chocolate bar. It’s her favorite food, like with Naomi’s ramen. Naomi gives Rouge the chocolate bar as they head to their next destination. It makes me wonder how this duo will develop along with some world-building. We will probably find out more next time.
I like the protagonists and setting. I get Cyberpunk vibes from the setup but I will need a few more episodes before the show really starts to click for me.
Yes, the first episode has lot of information, but I look forward to what you think about it soon.
