I admit that I am a big fan of Mahou Shoujo anime. What if you recruit an ordinary girl to the dark side that opposes the magical girls she loves? Well, you get this.
As expected, the magical girl in this town, Thres Magia, protects it from evil. The team consists of Azul, Sulfur and Magenta, whose names are Sayo, Kaoruko and Haruka. Hiiragi Utena is an average girl who is also shy and looks up to these magical girls. She even makes sketches of them during class and collects magical girl merchandise. She yearns to become a magical girl.
Of course, when a cute dark mascot offers powers, Utena transforms into a villainess, not a magical girl. Without villains, well, magical girls won’t exist. Utena doesn’t like the outfit she is wearing, but what is surprising is that the nudity and ecchi are uncensored. It’s not too surprising, given what Utena does next. Transform things into monsters and torture the magical girls she loves the most. Utena does things like spanking Azul’s, Sulfur’s and Magenta’s butts with her weapon and, in another instance, tickling them. Still, it’s surprising to see the magical girls get defeated not once but twice.
As expected, Utena didn’t want to do this, but the mascot, Venalita, blackmails her into doing it. She feels conflicted after what happened as she is in her bedroom. After all, she is going against the magical girls she loves the most. At the same time, she kind of enjoys it. The funny thing is that the magical girls don’t recognize that the villainess is Utena. Haruka ran into Utena while she was watering the flowers, startling her.
What is surprising about this premiere is that the nudity is uncensored. Since this blog is PG-13, I won’t share any of those screenshots, but it’s good to know. I was disappointed with Ayakashi Triangle, a show with a lot of fanservice that censors everything, even panty shots. Aside from that, I’m a bit more interested in the Yuri here. Given this show’s nature, watching it during the commute home is not a good idea, meaning the reviews may come out a little late.
This will satiate my craving for extra frisky Yuri that had become a rarity, especially after hentai seemingly became het focused and only threw in Yuri scenes in 3-ways with guys or “lesbians just need to be probed and they’ll see the light”. The latter instantly draws me away and I stop giving a shit about your anime porn. Probably because patriarchy or the “make more babies because population crisis” thing but I’m not the right person to talk about such things. Not even close. I just want more animated Yuri H.
Anyway my point is Gushing is filling a hole I needed filled for a very long time.
Agreed. While BL had some hentai in the past, it’s nice to see this show fix that given the growth of the yuri genre in the past several years. But that said, I’m presently surprised that an ecchi show is uncensored, like the other genderbender show which censors even panty shots.
That said, the show is surprisingly popular and even sold through all the Blu-rays, even that special set with a figurine. But definitely an enjoyable first episode, although I have to watch it at home for obvious reasons. 🙂
