Konohoshi Umika is a very introverted girl who doesn’t feel she can make friends on earth. She yearns to go to outer space and befriend some aliens. Before she knew it, one of her new classmates might be one.
While I read the first volume close to a year ago, I won’t spoil anything. Still, Umika is obviously more introverted than Moeta Kaoruko, Bocchi Hitori, and Gotou Hitori. It shows with her introduction to the class as she struggled, given her nervousness.
Of course, Umika enjoys reading science fiction and mystery books with the dream of building a rocket to go to outer space to find some alien friends. She wishes on a shooting star that she can meet an alien. Believe it or not, that wish becomes true.
After Umika prepares for her first school day, we glimpse Akeuchi Yuu. She woke up inside a lighthouse, already wearing a school uniform. She has a student handbook and even an ID card. As you would expect, Yuu is an energetic girl who comes to the entrance ceremony late while self-proclaiming herself as being an alien. I have to admit this is funny, as Umika is in awe.
As expected, this catches Umika’s attention. However, she hid behind the window’s curtains before she gained the courage to do so. Yes, by taking out an alien language dictionary. Speaking alien language is hard, but it catches Yuu’s attention as she knows about that book.
Believe it or not, it was really fascinating to hear her speak an alien language, which is mainly made up quite well. As expected, the girls talking to her don’t believe Yuu is an alien. This brings up bad memories of Umika being bullied for believing aliens exist. Those people haven’t heard about the “Area 51” conspiracy theories (let alone Naruto run into Area 51 to see them aliens).
When Umika’s face turns beet red after hearing Yuu talk in an alien language, which is funny, Yuu touches her forehead with Umika’s. Yep, while it looks intimate, Yuu finds out how Umika feels. From this, she finds out Umika’s yearning to go to space. Umika doesn’t know this feeling until Yuu realizes it’s telepathy. This is when Umika realizes that Yuu is, in fact, an actual alien, but not those stereotypical ones, of course. That is before she faints as Yuu calls out for her, which is quite funny.
Umika doesn’t know what to do the next day as she meets an alien. Of course, their homeroom teacher does a scavenger hunt so their classmates can get to know each other. Umika hopes to be paired up with Yuu so she can properly introduce herself. Yuu pulled two of the same numbers by chance and gave one to Umika.
As expected, it’s funny to see a montage of Umika and Yuu trying to find the instruction card. However, Umika can’t find an appropriate time to introduce herself, although she questions doing so. That is until Yuu does telepathy and finds out that Umika is feeling nervous and lonely and has something to tell her.
Thankfully, Umika eventually revealed it before Yuu found the card’s location. At least Umika gained the courage to introduce herself. Thankfully, Yuu didn’t laugh as she had the same goal of trying to get back to her home planet. Yep, in a way, they both have the same dream, which makes her happy. Thank goodness for her. Also, the card they found tells them to talk about their dream. It looks like they already did that.
In the last part, we discover that Yuu is good at athletics and studying. Yuu is similar to Miyako from Hidamari Sketch with her energetic personality and skill. Either way, it’s funny to see Umika hide from Yuu as she cannot bring herself to ask about Yuu’s secret. That is until Yuu gives up, and Umika heads home, where Yuu finds her. I find this funny and cute as Yuu tries to find Umika, gives up, and finds her.
Yuu eventually took her to where she lives, which is an abandoned lighthouse. She revealed from the trip book that her ship malfunctioned and found herself at the lighthouse. She admits she lost her memories when she woke up. That is when Umika attempts telepathy with her intentions to help her build a rocket so she can go back home. Yep, it’s a lovely moment as Yuu says she loves Umika and wants to be best friends. I wonder how they will achieve their lofty goals and what will come from this pairing.
That said, a girl heads to that lighthouse. We’ll find out who she is next time.
Like you said Umika’s shier than the first Bocchi but not as emotionally unstable as Hitori. Her cuteness is through the roof though. She deserves all the love in the galaxy. Hopefully Yu will be the one to shower her with affection.
Like I said, forehead kisses must become a new Yuri fetish. IT MUST.
Agreed, Umika is really cute and precious, but yes she is more shyer side. Still I look forward to her getting close to Yuu.
Of course, definitely.
