As expected, the moment fans of the yuri genre have been waiting for is finally here. Ever since Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou/I’m in Love With the Villainess was announced last year for an anime adaptation, I read 4 volumes of the manga in anticipation. Does the first episode live up to my expectations? Absolutely.
Ohashi Rei is a corporate drone who overworked herself. She is a big fan of an Otome Game called “Revolution.” However, Rei collapses while playing the game and wakes up in the world of her favorite game as the main heroine, Rae Taylor. As expected, after seeing Claire after Rae wakes up from resting on the desk, she sees her beside her. Of course, after looking around, Rae declares her love for her after asking Claire if she knows her name. As you would expect, Claire becomes surprised by Rae’s sudden confession of love.
With that, Claire tries to get Rae off her back by bullying her. As expected, it’s pretty milquetoast as Rae eats that up. Claire pushing Rae to the ground, stepping on her foot, pouring a cup of water on Rae’s head, and even hiding Rae’s textbook wasn’t very effective. I find Rae forcing Claire to have her share her textbook hilarious. Still, Rae finds it unsurprising that Claire only does the bullying. Still, Misha obviously wants Rae to stop, but of course, she isn’t going to do that.
As expected, the three princes, Rod, Thane and Yu, introduce themselves. It’s funny how Rae ruins Claire’s chances of winning over Thane by revealing that Claire has a crush on her. Given Claire’s tsundere personally, she denies it, and Thane considers it fact. Of course, Rae finds it cute seeing Claire this flustered. I agree.
With the plot of the second half of the episode, Claire is basically at wit’s end with Rae and decides to challenge her in the upcoming exams. She has to leave the academy if she doesn’t beat Claire at the exams. It’s obvious where this is heading, right? Still, it’s funny how Rae wants to sleep in the same bedroom as Claire after the day of exams. Claire denying her of this by slamming the door after screaming is hilarious.
Rae has prior knowledge of the game (and even the fan works) and strong magical affinity, as expected when the main character gets isekai’d. Rae has beaten Claire in the knowledge and magical ability exams, in which her magical abilities are over the measurement range. While it’s funny to see Claire having her moment when Rae ranked low in the etiquette exam. It was not too surprising since Rae started obsessing over how pretty Claire’s appearance was.
With that, it’s apparent that Rae won Claire’s challenge since Rae is still attending the academy. Now, Rae decides to apply to become Claire’s maid to always be with her. Aside from that, I think this was a strong premiere and is what I expected. A few minor scenes are omitted from the manga, but it was a delightful first episode with many good laughs. Also, there is a lot of yuri already, which is a given since Rae already has her heart set on Claire before being isekai’d.

Raw carrying the torch Anis left for a worthy gay to pick up.
Claire is love. It’s easy to see why Rae fell for her. Excited for more!
Excited for more Misha too.
Loved Rae being indifferent toward the princes.
Given that I have read the manga in anticipation (at least four volumes), it’s a good premiere and Claire is so good. Should be interested how things go from here.
