Now that the dismal summer is finally coming to an end, ultimately, it’s time to share my Fall picks. Yes, this is a pretty busy season. Of course, there are two shows I am excited about.
Of course, this list is subject to change.
Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou
Studio: Platinum Vision
Air Date: October 2, 2023
This is the yuri show I am waiting for, given that I heard many good things about the light novel. Believe it or not, I am reading the manga adaptation (on the 4th volume in Japanese) and like it so far. Claire does come off as being not only prejudiced but also classist since she looks down on commoners and doesn’t care about their concerns. Thankfully, she gets better as Rae tries to get closer to her. It should be interesting to see how the Anime turns out.
Hoshikuzu Telepath
Studio: Studio Gokumi
Airdate: October 2023
After months of no Manga Time Kirara titles airing, one of the most anticipated ones is finally here. Basically, the manga describes itself as “yuri meets space,” While I have read two volumes of the manga, as it basically focuses on cute girls making and launching model rockets,
Konohoshi Umika is shy, probably more so than Hitori and the other Bocchi, who just want to make friends. That is until she meets Akeuchi Yuu, the cheerful, self-proclaimed alien girl who ended up on Earth. The forehead telepathy probably gives the feeling of intimacy from reading the manga. Still, given that a Manga Time Kirara title hasn’t aired for a while, this should be fun.
Others I plan to check out are:
Uma Musume Third Season – As expected, Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond might be the main focus, as it’s hinted in the last season. You should see some interesting drama and funny antics like in the previous seasons. Don’t care too much about the trainers, but hopefully, there will be a female trainer this time, right?
Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon – It’s a story about a shut-in vampire, Terakomari Gandesblood or Komari, who is awakened. Now that she is an army commander, she is picky regarding blood. However, will a certain maid, infatuated with her, be enough? Yes, given this, it’s obvious it has yuri.
Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijou – It’s a show focusing on a witch, Alissa, who comes across a human baby whom she names Viola. After raising her for 16 years, she grows beyond Alissa imagined. As expected, it should be interesting to see how this relationship plays out, especially since they aren’t blood-related, obviously.
Overall, it should be a fun and yuri-filled season.
Life Updates (and hint, why you should finally leave X/Twitter and move to Mastodon, NOT BlueSky).
Believe it or not, Twitter, now called X, has been a disaster. Besides the rate limit fiasco and blocking viewing of public tweets, which they have since retracted. Twitter, now named X, got people angry over them ditching the iconic bird branding.
X (nee Twitter) is following the playbook of MySpace’s demise as hate speech, spam bots, and posts one doesn’t want to see as features go behind a paywall, causing users to leave. That is why Japanese users are flocking more to Misskey and Mastodon as alternatives. With X about to remove blocks soon and Jack Dorsey endorsing Elon’s choice, it’s getting more dangerous. Now, Elon is threatening to sue the ADL, an organization that fights against Antisemitism. Elon showed his true colors and how much of a bigot he is.
It’s frustrating that I must cut off connections as people are reluctant to move to Mastodon. I know it has the perception of being hard, but in reality, it’s not. Third-party clients exist to make the experience even more accessible and have recently added full-text search (opt-in, of course), which Twitter users are begging for. Of course, I have created video tutorials and guides to make the Mastodon experience easier.
Even so, some people eventually give up on Mastodon because they think it’s too hard, their friends aren’t there or poor moderation. For one, I cannot recommend Mastodon Social/Online at all. First, there are too many users, especially some that do rule-breaking like sending spam messages.
Also, people tend to have a bad experience of people policing them for not using content warnings, which is behavior I don’t condone. Generally, content warnings are only used for NSFW stuff and extreme violence. I know someone in the blogosphere this happened to on Mastodon Social, and they gave up on Mastodon completely. Had they been on our instance at Sakurajima, we would have deemed the perpetrator doing harassing behavior and could have done something about it.
With that, there is a reason I don’t trust BlueSky, and I don’t consider it as an alternative. After all, it’s made by the same guy, Jack Dorsey, who sold Twitter to Elon Musk and ran it into the ground. Why should we trust him? Besides needing an account to read any content, BlueSky had numerous moderation issues that made the place unsafe for BIPOC. Not only that, BlueSky didn’t have a block feature before they were forced to put it in. You heard that right: Jack Dorsey intended for Bluesky to have no blocking feature like what Elon wanted.
Moreover, from what I heard from my users, BlueSky is hostile towards Anime fans. Also, I doubt the safety and even the long-term sustainability of Bluesky in the economic environment where low interest rates and free money are no longer a thing. This is also another reason not to use BlueSky.
In case this meme bleeds here or into the real world.
A right wing lady got bullied off Bluesky, and she wrote a horrible piece in the Atlantic about it being full of anime genitalia, and #AnimeGenitalia is trending. It is breaking my anime custom feed by people memeing it, or agreeing and hating on anime fans again…
@breadbin The thing is, Mastodon just added improved (opt-in) full text search recently, so it’s at least way ahead in terms of stability and features compared to something like… BlueSky.
Why BlueSky, I tried setting up one of those test PDS servers and it's very barebones. I see absolutely no appeal to it, especially the moderation issues and hate speech on the platform. Also, isn't it run by Jack Dorsey, the same guy who agrees with Elon in getting rid of blocks.
Seriously??? :kanafacepalm:
I do want to see more anime blogger folks and mutuals here, but it's kind of hard to convince them to make the switch, and it makes me sad.
DO. NOT. USE. JACK. DORSEY. PLATFORMS.
"Within 48 hours of the FBI visit to Twitter, [Twitter] acknowledged they had "found" the leak to the FBI – proving they knew. The next day, the spy fled the US!
6 months later, Jack [Dorsey] met with MBS to discuss how they could work together to "train & qualify" Saudi groups on Twitter to do the very same work the two spy employees had done. And just 8 months prior to that meeting, KSA doubled its investment in Twitter"

As expected, people wonder what Mastodon server to join, especially if you are an Anime fan or blog about Anime (or create stuff around Japanese media.). I started Sakurajima at the end of October since I knew Twitter wouldn’t end well. Administering a server and assembling a mod team isn’t easy, but I’m happy with the community I built.
If you want to know how to join Sakurajima, watch these videos I put together explaining Mastodon and how to auto-share blog posts. If you are on other servers and interested in joining, you can join and migrate your followers to your new account. You can join our Mastodon server here.
Aside from that, I will be concentrating more on preparing for the JLPT, which I plan to take at the N2 level. I am watching JDramas besides reading manga and playing video games in Japanese only. Even if I pass or fail the test in December, it will at least show where I am in my studies after doing WaniKani for close to two years.
With that, what shows are you planning to watch? Feel free to share in the comments. But yes, I can’t wait to start blogging more after summer was a snooze fest.
Apparently, one of the reasons why Elon rebranded Twitter as “X” because he actually once wanted to revive his own online bank which was “X.com” in some sort of way
I also had the impression that Musk changed the bird twitter brand to “X” only to satisfy his personal ego.Is the same in this all aquisition
Is the same in all this aquisition, where its became clear he pretends to impose his personal preference to fascism over the world. (Sorry, I had to continue my last comment here because of problems in my keypad…)
No problem, but Yes, there is a huge number of changes that made Twitter unappealing, and renaming it to X, pretty much killed its usefulness. I have high doubts that X will survive.
As to what the future of social networking will be, well it’s going to be really fragmented, between Mastodon/Fediverse (WordPress is adding ActivityPub support btw along with Threads) and BlueSky…
I have a feeling that I might have to spin up a BlueSky server when it’s possible, but I will still be doing my main posts on Mastdon. Yes, the future of social network will be interesting to see how things go. Maybe people will go back to blogging?
Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou, Hoshikuzu Telepath, Hikikomari Kyuuketsuki no Monmon, Shy, Dekoboko Majo no Oyako Jijou,…
The next season seems to compensate the lack of yuri of the actual season.
Besides the yuri list, I strongly recommend “Souso no Frieren” and “Kusuriya no Hitorigoto”. Both of them have a very interesting story and the production looks promising.
Yes, mostly everything I plan to watch, but I have a lot to cover this season, which is on top of the immersion in Japanese media, namely manga and JDrama, along with other media since I do plan to attempt to pass the JLPT N2. Not sure I will pass, but it’s now all immersion at this point since I completed WaniKani.
When I tried mastodon several years ago, it was much harder. Now it’s pretty easy. There used to be so many generic instances. There are certainly some great choices if you’re interested in anime/manga/etc, and the discussions are far more interesting.
Yes, I can agree given that I tried spinning up a Mastodon server back in 2018, which was more of an experiment, but I can imagine it’s a lot harder back then. Even back when I started my Mastodon server in 2022 at the end of October, it wasn’t that easy, until the 4.0 upgrade. I guess Elon buying Twitter was the catalyst that led to more clients for Mastodon to make it easier to use, quality of life improvements on Mastodon and development of other tools and even new software and integrations that work with ActivityPub.
