Last time, Shizuka disappeared as she lent herself to Kokona. Will Kokona’s performance be enough to bring her back?
The big day has come as the opening day has finally come. Still, Kokona seems a little down about Shizuka, although Kathrina encouraged her. They are confident that they can bring her back from the production. Of course, Kathrina’s mother sat next to the theater critic, Chisa. Yep, she kind of recognized her.
Of course, Noa waits in anticipation seeing Kokona’s performance. Despite Shizuka disappearing, Noa didn’t change the roles as she wanted to see how Kokona fares, even if she loses her senses. It seems a bit selfish on Noa’s part, but Shamo believes senses evolve and represent actors’ dreams. She believes that Kokona’s senses will stay but get stronger.
As for the production, It’s great as one expected. Of course, Kokona performed even better than her peers expected during rehearsal. We see Panda at her best and especially Kokona and Yae as they showed their acting at their best using their senses in their roles as the Phantom and Christine, respectively. Yep, we have Kokona and Yae being the star and costar again. The performances are well done, especially to the point where you are in the actual place.
Of course, during the performance, Shizuka within Kokoha seems down. After all, we see flashbacks of Kokona and Shizuka working together to figure out the role of the phantom. Shizuka wonders why Kokoha is here. After all, Shizuka gave herself so Kokona could become a World Dai Star. It becomes apparent that Kokona is not ready yet, as she worked hard to get where she is now.
Not only that, Kokona has a promise to fulfill. She wants to become a World Dai Star together with Shizuka. While she thought this was her story, in reality, it was her’s and Shizuka as she reached her hand out. While Shizuka seemed hesitant, Kokona grabbed it. Shizuka wanted to be on stage with Kokona.
At the end of an excellent performance, Kokona came backstage, and Shizuka appeared out of nowhere, wearing the same costume as Kokona. As Shamo said, Senses will continue to evolve, and actors will shine bright. Someday, Kokona’s and Shizuka’s senses can eventually evolve to the same level as Kokona’s and Shizuka’s senses combined. Also, it’s interesting that Chisa might have gained a sense of her own.
In the end, nobody expected Yae to become the World Dai Star for Sirius. You would think Kokona would become one, given that she surpassed Yae. However, she only does it when her and Shizuka’s senses are combined. So it’s easy to see why Noa picked Yae all along. It’s a sign that Yae overcame the weaknesses that prevented her from becoming one. Still, it’s pretty fitting to see Shizuka and Kokona lying on stage as Noa decides their next play for Sirius to perform.
Final Thoughts
As expected, World Dai Star is a pretty underrated show focusing on girls doing theater. While the premise feels similar to the likes of Revue Starlight and Kageki Shoujo, it was interesting to see Kokona’s growth as an actress. Sure, she was a novice in the beginning, copying performances to eventually doing her acting. It was interesting to learn more about Shizuka, the embodiment of Kokona’s sense that helped guide her the way.
While it was interesting how Shizuka gave herself so Kokona could fulfill her dream, she wanted to do it together with Shizuka. It’s interesting to see how Shizuka became sentient thanks to that moment in Kokona’s first performance so Kokona wouldn’t fail. Even so, it was interesting to see how the other girls were supportive, even though they have the goal of becoming a World Dai Star too. In short, if you liked Revue Starlight or Kageki Shoujo, you might enjoy this show.
Quite the finale to another wonderful stage girls show. Wish Kathrina was Christine for obvious reasons but what we got was still excellent. Wish the show were more popular so we wouldn’t have to play the mobile game for more.
Agreed, it was interesting to see Kokona grow and of course, the girls are enjoyable. I agree that Kathrina would probably make a better Catherine than Yae. Then again, do we need Yae to play the same type of role again. 😉
Hopefully we will see more from this media project in the future.
