Now that Hime and Mitsuki finally made up, the tensions lie with Kanako and Sumika. Kanako is scared of her. Is it because Sumika looked at Kanako’s smartphone? Also, a popularity contest election is about to begin.
From the last episode, Kanako seems unhappy that Hime and Mitsuki are on good terms again. After all, she is probably afraid that someone will look at her stash of Hime photos on her phone. With the Blume Election coming up, which sounds like “bloom,” but in German, it means flower. It’s just a popularity contest to see who is the most popular girl in the café. The sister of the blume-sama is called the Blume Schwester. This is where tensions start to build, particularly between Kanako and Sumika.
After Mai explains the lore behind the Blume Election, Hime obviously wants to win as it will help her image. However, I would think she would vote for Mitsuki because she is her little sister, of course. Kanako wants Hime to win, of course. People get to vote when they buy the “Blume Nachisch,” which means flower desert in German. Basically, they need 450 votes to finish the whole election.
After the talk, Sumika mentions the phone Kanako left behind yesterday. Kanako seems awfully anxious, as Hime says it. Kanako seemed very worried that someone was looking at her phone. Even so, Kanako can’t talk to other people compared to Hime, which she looks up to. Things get tense when Sumika does her thing, as Hime makes her appeal to have people vote for her. She takes the popularity contest seriously as Sumika tries to seduce Hime as a joke, and Kanako gets a bit defensive.
With that, it looks as if Kanako looks jealous, as if Sumika has a thing for Hime. Hime takes this as Kanako being shy when she believes it’s not the case. However, she is looking at Kanako, which makes her realize that she might know about that stash of photos. So, of course, Kanako takes more pictures of Hime sleeping. That is after she takes her hair and swirls it with her fingers with Hime’s.
Things get a bit worse when Kanako enters Sumika dressed as a gyaru the following way. She believes Sumika is a stranger dressed as her usual gyaru self. Sumika reveals the glasses are fake, and she pretends to read them as her facade. Yep, she makes herself feel more studious than she actually is. Nene comes in and reveals that the Blume Nachtish is selling faster than expected. The contest is a hit, as the customers are eager to vote. Things get a bit worse when Sumika asks if Hime reads books. Of course, she talks big as reading is a good thing as she steals Hime’s thunder.
As expected, Sumika asks Kanako and mentions a book called “Arrogance and Prejudice,” which is quite a fitting book on how Kanako feels. In addition, she mentions a summary of the book’s plot, which makes Kanako suspicious that Sumika is making things up. That is when she ran into the kitchen, and Hime asked if she was okay. Nene gets upset over Kanako and Hime talking about Sumika behind her back. This makes me wonder if Nene knows more about Sumika than Hime and Kanako don’t know about.
Eventually, Kanako looked at the book Sumika mentioned. She finds out that Sumika was right all along. Sumika tells her that she read that book but not during work, and she only uses books she already read as props. This is where Kanako realizes that Sumika is not bad after all, as she just wants to be friendly with her. The question is, will Sumika make advances on Kanako next as she starts to warm up to her? Only time can tell. Still, I wonder about Nene, as she seems defensive about Sumika. We’ll find out soon enough.
Very good start to Sumika and Kanoko’s story. Interested to see how their relationship progresses now that Kanoko is less scared of the hot gyaru.
Nene getting more screentime majes me very happy.
Very late to responding to this comment, but the developments of this relationship was interesting at the very least.
