12 Days of Yuri Pairings – 2022 Edition

December 31, 2022 by Chikorita157 3 Comments
Artist: うおぬまゆう

Like every year, I always do the 12 days of Christmas thing. Of course, I couldn’t finish it on time since I procrastinated during the holidays. Also, I needed a break after the chaos on that site. With that, while this came out very late, at least

Hiyori and Koharu

It’s not very common to see a similar setup to Citrus, where you have a remarriage and two sisters that are not blood-related. Still, the faithful encounter in the first episode. Then, of course, we see some lovely moments with them together throughout the TV series as they get closer while doing some fishing.

Sure, Koi might have some closeness to Hiyori. But, in the end, we know who will make a better pairing as the childhood friend usually gets the short end of the stick.

Komichi and Erika

Since Erika is the first classmate whom Komichi met, it’s not surprising since they have many things in common. Yes, they even spend time on that so-called “date” as she goes fishing near Komichi’s house. Erika even comes over to Komichi’s house. Erika even worked hard to play the piano for Komichi for her performance, which turned out nice.

Of course, Komichi seems fascinated by Erika’s trimmed nails. Obviously, she needs them trimmed since she plays piano. Also, there are a lot of cute moments with them together that make this pairing rather cute.

Momo and Shamiko

Sure, Shamiko didn’t like Momo as she was the magical girl that put a curse on her family. However, Momo doesn’t seem interested in fighting her but wants to help her. So, of course, Shamiko warms up to Momo and eventually wants to help Momo find her older sister, which looks like a love confession. That is after discovering what Momo’s older sister did to help Shamiko’s family.

As expected in the second season, they appear more like a couple. This is especially the case when Momo goes in to save Shamiko using her Darkness Peach form. Sure, Shamiko does like the exposed midriff area that she wants to touch this area. She wondered what would happen if she pulled the string. Not to mention, you can’t forget the idol fan Shamiko transforms her rod into to encourage Momo to use her Darkness Peach form instead.

The moment that makes this pairing great is when Momo gets upset, falling into darkness while transforming into her Darkness Peach form. It’s all because she didn’t have the opportunity to eat Shamiko’s cooking during the Zoo date, which is not because Mikan, Lico and Shirosawa tagged along.

Kotone and Fa

While Rufuria doesn’t get along with Fa, given how annoying she finds her, Kotone seems to have a liking for her. This is especially the case when Kotone moves into the same apartment and, at some point, sleeps in the same bed.

Obviously, it’s easy to see why Kotone likes Fa a lot because she is kind and helpful, along with her cute looks. It becomes very apparent, especially when the government officials want to arrest Fa, that she is willing to run away with her, which is funny. Not to mention, there is one instance where Kotone wants to kiss Fa’s cheeks, but Fa is not ready for that yet.

Moreover, it appears that Fa has some feelings for Kotone after visiting her family and meeting Kotone’s little sister. Also, after she realized that she attacked Kotone against her will as someone controlled her. Obviously, she was very upset, but thankfully Kotone made a full recovery. Also, Kotone’s little sisters develop a liking for Fa for the same reason, so I guess they approve of this pairing too.

Menou and Akari

While Momo obviously has a massive crush on Menou, we know that she won’t ultimately win. It’s evident that Menou eventually develops feelings for Akari throughout her journey. Maybe it’s because of her strange vision of seeing Akari in a classroom. Obviously, it has to do with the multiple timelines. Obviously, Momo seems annoyed when Menou is with Akari for obvious reasons

I must admit the moments with Akari and Menou are funny. Things such as their so-called “date” and that moment when Akari’s towel came off after coming out of the bath. Not to mention, she lends Menou her power when she needs it. So it’s easy to see why this pairing will prevail over Menou and Momo.

Momo and Ashuna

Sure, Momo has a massive crush on Menou as she befriended her during the rough time with executioner training. Not to mention, she is Menou’s precious partner. Still, it’s easy to see why it’s easy to pair Momo with Ashuna.

Ashuna seems to develop a liking for Momo after they have a duel on top of the train car just because. They also battle alongside, although the love appears to be only one-sided. But at least she acknowledged Momo getting sick and wished her a full recovery. After all, opposites attract, and we know that Momo won’t stand a chance against Akari, so this is the apparent alternative.

Eve and Aoi

Aoi is an up-and-coming and favored golf player as her family is part of a family renowned for golfing. She eventually challenges Eve and wants to challenge her with an actual match against each other. But, of course, Eve has the temptation to fulfill Aoi’s promise despite getting involved with the mafia.

While Eves sees her relationship with Aoi as a friendly rivalry, Aoi seems to have a crush on her and can’t stop obsessing about her. This, of course, makes her caddy annoyed since Aoi won’t stop talking about Eve. When she saw her in the VR game, she obviously hugged her. The same happens when Eve transfers into the school, but she avoids Aoi’s hug. Still, seeing how this pairing will develop in the second half as they team up for a golf tournament should be interesting.

Takina and Chisato

This pairing does not need much explanation since it’s one of the more popular. While Takina and Chisato are complete opposites, eventually, Takina warms up to Chisato after getting to know her more. After all, her cheerful personality is pretty addictive. This becomes apparent when Chisato’s artificial heart gets damaged. She goes to great lengths, even ripping the artificial heart out of Yoshi put into himself to save her beloved, although Chisato stops her. Thankfully, a certain someone finds a way to save Chsato despite this.

Either way, there are plenty of lovely moments with Takina and Chisato. This ranges from that scene where Chisato lifts Takina, that date, and the infiltration scene in that club. This might be the best pairing for this year, although there were many notable ones.

Shiki and Mei

Mei and Shiki are always together since she just wants to make friends with them. I find it funny how she spends time in the science club despite having no interest in science. However, I find it interesting how Shiki joins the school idol club to get Mei to join.

Sure, Shiki gets upset at Mei for not joining. Still, like all tsunderes, Mei has difficulty being honest about her feelings. Still, it’s nice to reconsider and even get Shiki on board. Not only that, there are some nice moments with Shiki complimenting Mei’s cute looks and other cute moments with them together.

Serufu and Miku

I must admit that this childhood pairing is cute and funny. Miku and Serufu get along as she looks after Serufu since she is prone to hurting herself during their childhood. However, I admit the promise they made after giving each other a wind chime and promising to hang it up when they make a secret base.

Of course, this changed when Serufu said she didn’t want Miku to look after her. Well, she became a tsundere, which makes the pairing quite funny as she trashes the DIY club, but at the same time feels left out. It’s obvious when she wants to do DIY because Serufu is doing it. Still, the moment Miku joins in and even spends a day finishing the final touches of the secret base with Serufu is nice. The moments there were lovely, at the very least.

Sarasa and Lorea

I admit this pairing is very adorable, given Lorea’s cute looks. Also, Lorea is the first to meet Sarasa and likes her because of how stylish she dresses. But, of course, Sarasa enjoys Lorea’s cooking, and she will protect her no matter what.

It’s not too surprising since she is the first person she meets that is willing to help her. Also, they have other lovely moments, such as Sarasa teaching Lorea how to swim. Still, this pairing reminds me of Yuna and Fina pairing from Kuma Kuma Bear.

Nagomi and Nerula

Nagomi is thrown into the world of maids as gangsters, which she never expected? This is why she quickly became friends with Nerula. Despite being part of a rival maid café, she is a very kind and supportive maid who helps Nagomi by giving her helpful advice.

I can see why they get along that they even form a sisterhood pact when Minami is at large targeting Oinky Doink. In a way, this pairing is canon, but it’s too bad it didn’t last long. Nerula sacrifices her life to protect Nagomi. It’s one of the most tragic pairings, as Nerula is too pure for this show. I can see why Nagomi feels depressed after seeing Minami kill the person that means a lot to her. Thankfully, she remains true to the promise she made.

With that, I hope you enjoy my selection of pairings. Some are left out because I either didn’t watch that show or it wouldn’t fit. Aside from that, feel free to share your favorite yuri pairings from anime that aired in 2022 in the comments. Also, feel free to discuss the ones I mentioned as well. Hopefully, I’ll try my hardest to get this kind of post out earlier in 2023.

If you want more, you can see the pairings I shared in 2021.

2022 turned out to be better than expected with the yuri goodness. Little did we know it would be an appetizer for what was to come a year later. Fingers crossed the year lives up to the hype, specifically more than it already will.

Agreed, but I think coming up with a list for 2023 once everything is over could be interesting or tough since there will be many good pairings. But it should be interesting who will make the list by the end of this year.
