After that special dinner that Hiyori and Koharu threw, they finally go to their grandmother’s place to go fishing near a river there for Iwana. At last, some nice bonding time with Hiyori and Koharu.
At the end of the episode last time, Hiyori and Koharu is finally going on a family trip. They are staying at Hiyori’s grandmother’s place. I find it funny how Koharu manages to catch a cicada and bring it up to Hiyori’s face. While Hiyori made an artificial fly with a cicada before, it’s obvious that she doesn’t like insects. I can imagine how Koharu will react when Brood X was a thing.
Aside from that, they made dumplings with their mother and grandmother. It’s obvious that they are going to the stream to fish. As expected, her grandmother recalls the time that she took her son, Shinya fishing at the stream. Obviously, their grandmother decides to stay home since he hurt his back. Of course, he is quiet. It does remind a bit of Hiyori given how quiet and shy she was before she met Koharu.
Of course, Koharu wondered if Hiyori’s grandmother is always cheerful. This was not always the case. She changed after Hiyori’s father passed away. Her grandmother always cried and got angry often. I can only imagine how she acted when she was young.
The next day, Hiyori and Koharu goes to the stream to fish. Of course, they came prepared with special gear that allow them to go into the river. While Water goes through the shoes, it keeps the temperature. This amazes Koharu, although it seems as if she scared the fish away.
Either way, they are trying to catch Iwana or Char fish that live near rocks. Koharu finds it funny how Hiyori makes in impression of the fish biting. Obviously, Hiyori blushed quite a bit. I think this is Koharu’s “Mugi Tea” moment from last time.
While Hiyori managed to hatch a few Char fish, she released them. Koharu wonders why and Hiyori explains that there are not many fish in streams and it’s best to release them so they can grow bigger.
Of course, Koharu manages to catch one, which she intends to eat. Hiyori and Koharu celebrates their catch. I find it cute how she names it Iwagoro. Yep, she grown attached to it despite going to eat it. While she wanted to catch more, but a thunderstorm came. Koharu forgot her waterproof poncho and she got soaking wet.
From this, she becomes upset that she failed as a big sister and causing trouble. She blames herself, even when she catches a summer cold, mostly from being soaking wet. It’s obvious that Koharu blames herself over not living up to Hiyori. From this, she thought that Hiyori hates her for being irresponsible. Thankfully, Hiyori doesn’t think this is the case. Hiyori noticed her grandfather went out shopping.
Aside from that, Hiyori helped her grandmother cook something with the fish Koharu caught. Her mother tanks to take Hiyori and Koharu to a botanical garden when Koharu got better. Of course, Koharu had dream when her biological mother and younger brother visit her in the hospital. It’s obvious that Koharu had a serious illness before. Eventually Koharu woke up as Hiyori brings Char soup. It’s obvious that she is feeling better when her father run to their bedroom. It’s obvious that he is very worried. I can see why given that flashback.
Hiyori eventually talked to Koharu and says it’s okay to let out how she feels. After all, they are family. That is when the fireworks came. Sure, Koharu seems disappointed that she couldn’t participate in the fireworks festival, Hiyori doesn’t mind missing it. After all, she doesn’t like being in crowds. After all, Hiyori tells her about the garden. It’s obvious that Koharu wants to go. Either way, it looks like there is more bonding moments with Hiyori and Koharu next time.
The emotional moments of the show are subtle and effective. Almost choked up seeing sad Koharu.
Yes, I agree that it’s kind of sad to see Koharu that down. Of course, the Anime didn’t mention that Koharu has asthma, which apparently didn’t get mentioned in the anime. This explans why she was in the hospital in the flashback.
I remember there was an episode where koharu’s dad mentioned her illness to yamahi
Not so sure about that, unless it’s lost in translation. The manga, even in the first volume for sure mentions Koharu’s Ashima problems.
Hmm i don’t know either, in episode 1 min 22:00 koharu’s father said ” She looks lively, but she used to go in and out of the hospital a lot when she was young” and then mentioned that the disease was asthma .
Yep, it probably slipped my mind since it was been a while since the first episode.
