After Suzune revealed part of her secret and bolted out of the room, she is starting to give up. However, Rena, and everyone else is not willing to give up on Suzune just yet.
When Suzune revealed the news about that scar that she had heart surgery, she was really upset. It seems that she had survivor guilt as a result. While I can’t blame everyone else since they didn’t know. Even so, it’s obvious that Rena is worried for Suzune, especially what happened even if she views her as a rival.
Understandably, the other girls seem worried as well and want to apologize for being insensitive. However, Suzune say it’s not their fault as she believes that her body isn’t hers. This is when we find out from a flashback that her complex heart surgery was a heart transplant.
Well, I can see why people are now making comparisons to Idoly Pride. As mentioned in the last episode’s review, Sakura had a heart transplant as well. We don’t know for sure if it’s Akari’s heart as it could as well be someone else’s heart. Still, after child Suzune finds out from her parents that she received a heart transplant, and that an organ donor gave it to her, she becomes upset. While she starts having survivor guilt, but it didn’t become apparent until now.
Of course, Sumipanda makes a big deal over the drama of whether Suzune will drop out or not. In the cafeteria, we see Sumipanda drinking their sorrows away as they worry about Suzune.
When the girls walked in, they find out Sumipanda is caring while they ask her to take off the costume. This is when Sunny reveals the person’s name who is playing as Sumipanda. Her name is apparently Jun. This is when Nagisa find out the identity of Sumipanda is Red-Bean Jun. I guess her idol gig singing enka didn’t quite work out and she would rather keep this a secret.
Rena eventually talks to Suzune in private. What is striking is that Rena reveals that that she is an organ donor. She wants to help someone to live if something happened to her and see them smile. Rena eventually suggests Suzune to write a letter to the family of the organ donor to work through her feelings. While it’s sound advice to get over the guilt, I wonder who that family is. Just don’t tell me that the letter will end up at Rena’s house as Akari might be a organ donor too.
However, the thing that changes Suzune’s mind not to give up is a letter from one of her fans. A girl named Sakurai Suzune. While her name is written from the idol Suzune, she facing the same situation like her. Despite this, Suzune is still cheering idol Suzune on. If she could, she would give her 100,000 yells.
When Suzune remembers what Rena said earlier after reading the letter, she finally finds a resolve. She runs to meet up with the other girls and apologize to her. She admits that yells are more than just numbers, but the cheerer’s own thoughts and feelings. It’s not too surprising given the girl who vote the letter supporting her Now, Suzune doesn’t want to let them down by giving up and she would let the person who helped save her life down.
With that, comes the performance. Yes, the girls came up with a new swimsuit that would hide the scar. It’s nice that the girls are supportive as Suzune comes clear with the live session that she won’t give up. As for the performance, it was well received that everyone miraculously passes the second round.
However, that good news didn’t last long as Sumipanda reveals some bad news which is sinister. Only 7 can make it to the final round and the girls need to vote two out for elimination. I wonder if they will rebel with some voting backflips, cause some drama, or two girls are willing to give up voluntarily. After all, if every idol has exactly one vote, you can’t eliminate them all, right? We’ll see next time.
More invested in this show than expected. Probably helps I didn’t finish Idoly Pride. No. I would have enjoyed Selection regardless.
Haven’t watched idoly Pride, but I agree that so far at least, Selection Project has been interesting with the developments so far.
