Hanari Ruka has transferred into another school since her parents are working overseas. Of course, after finding a special ring and meeting her roommate, Hirahara Hiyo, Ruka finds herself in a strange world. What is it?
Note: I only finished the original game up to Chapter 5 since I stopped playing in July 2017. I won’t spoil much, if at all regarding the game.
In the beginning of the episode, we see a blond hair girl, Tanabe Momo facing off the last Sephirot, Netzach. In the school, Yuzu and Lime wonders if they should intervene, but decided not to.
If you don’t know who Yuzu and Lime are, they are Reflectors that accompany Hinako in the original video game, which is the prequel to this anime. That is what you need to know about them for now at least. Her teammate, Mio shows up and she becomes upset for some reason. Suddenly, a white light engulfs them for some reason. It’s obvious that they can’t defeat the Sephirot.
Still, it’s odd that most of the characters didn’t reveal who they are, and I must look their names up as they are new characters. Of course, they are not related to the game. Of course, the people who worked on this anime revealed them before the airing. Also, it helps me, so I don’t have generic descriptions. Thankfully, they aren’t related to the game, so I’m not really spoiling anything.
Fast forward to present day, Ruka, one of the protagonists moved into the dorm. She apparently transferred after her parents had to work overseas. It’s obvious that Ruka has trouble socializing with other people. This makes me wonder what happened to her. Not to mention, she kind of gives off the vibes of Nanami Yachiyo having a very similar hair style.
After Ruka introduces her to the class, classmates start asking her questions. Yes, the usual such as what club she will join. Meanwhile, Miyako seems curious about Ruka for some reason as she hangs out with her friends. She also shows off her phone. Of course, the sparkly stuff shined into Ruka’s eyes. When Ruka saw them, they walked away. Yep, Ruka felt down over the whole thing. I don’t blame her as she is being too hard on herself.
Meanwhile, it seems that Momo’s part time job gig isn’t going so well. She recorded a girl who wanted an interview. Of course, a call interrupted her, and she walked away. Eventually, Momo called someone talking about fragments, but we don’t get the full details. Yep, the train went by. How convenient! It’s obvious there is something that they want to reveal yet. Momo eventually notices her ring shining.
As Ruka walks out of the bookstore with a book on how to improve her social skills, she runs into Miyako. Yes, she is shopping for another phone case. Miyako wonders what is up with Ruka. Ruka asks why Miyako is buying another case. It’s obvious that she bought an expensive one to impress her friends even if she wanted a cute one. I guess Miyako doesn’t realize that buying expensive looking stuff to impress others is setting herself into trouble.
Either way, she gets upset at Ruka saying that she doesn’t understand. When she arrives home, she hears her parents complimenting her brother saying he is the best child. I can see this being part of her Miyako’s troubles. Yep, it’s sibling jealousy.
Of course, after Miyako left, Momo bumps into Ruka. After Momo left, Ruka picks up a ring. Of course, it gives her a funny feeling, but she didn’t think much of it. That is not until Hiyo, her roommate came into the bedroom from the window. Yep, it feels like a faithful encounter. Also, Ruka notices the ring that Hiyo wears as a necklace is shining. I wonder what that is about.
The next day, Hiyo arrives at school. She reveals that the RA scolded her for being out late. Eventually, she introduces herself to Ruka and becomes surprisingly close. Ruka also helps making posters for Tanabata with Hiyo as well.
When they walked in the hallway, Hiyo wondered why a girl looks like she is crying. The girl just has dust in her eyes. Of course, Ruka wonders why Hiyo talked to the girl if she doesn’t know her. It’s obvious that Ruka wants some advice on her social skills.
Of course, Hiyo couldn’t give an answer, until they heard a scream. It’s obvious that Komagawa Uta is looking for something from Miyako. After all, Uta talked with Yamada Nina, who she refers to her as her Senpai. It’s obvious that she has a close relationship with her. Both have red rings.
Everything eventually freezes around them and Ruka and Hiyo finds someone in need of help. Of course, Hiyo feels the need to rescue her as Momo rushes to the same spot. Of course, Uta on the roof tries to take something shining from Miyako’s body. Momo eventually attacks Uta as she stops her attack.
As expected, Uta escapes as Miyako’s body starts falling from the ledge of the roof. Thankfully, Hiyo tries to save her, until she decides to use her ring’s magic. She also hears a voice, which of course Yuzu’s and Lime’s voice telling Hiyo to save her.
Of course, Ruka has no idea what is going on. I guess we will finally find out in the next episode along with the full details of what Reflectors are.
Hopefully they’ll recap the important events of the game for both newcomers and fans of the game to catch up and find out how it relates to what will happen later. If not then I’ll watch a playthrough as a last resort or hope a “Blue Reflection DX” is announced for Switch.
I like the setup, world, main duo’s potential relationship and of course the (not-so) subtle gayness.
I still haven’t beaten the game personally yet, but I think they will explain some aspects again, but we’ll see. Still, the relationship between Ruka and Hiyo will be interesting. Still, I wonder the opposing team intentions too.
What happened to her? Nothing, necessarily. I’m autistic and she’s exactly how I used to be. It’s not a response to trauma (though it often leads to being bullied); understanding other people is just something we aren’t naturally good at.
It’s not WHY Hiyori talked to the girl that Ruka doesn’t understand; it’s HOW. Ruka, at this point, can’t imagine doing that because she has no idea what would be appropriate to say.
I think you have it backwards with which phone Miyako really wanted, but then we didn’t know her backstory at this point.
Hi Chikorita,
I stumbled across your reviews and have enjoyed them, I was wondering if I could talk to you about using them on the blue reflection wiki?
