Mira finally starts her first day of high school. When she joins the astronomy club. The only problem, they merge with the geology club. After Mira visits, she finds out that her old friend she made a promise to is in it.
From a flashback, apparently a girl named Konohata Mira met a person that looks like a boy named Manaka Ao. They look at the stars while their families took them camping. While there is a star named Mira, there is none named after Ao. Mira promises her that they would find one and name it after her. Sadly, they never met again, until now. At least Mira’s childhood friend, Suzuya Moe is there to cheer her up.
I find it funny how the astronomy club is in worse state that they needed to merge. Apparently, the president of the club, Morino Mari thought it’s a good idea to wear a bunny suit to do a “sexy planetarium” during the cultural festival last year. As expected, the school scolded her for it, which is understandable. At least she got a lot of visitors and attention. Despite this, they lost members for several reasons. Also, the vice president from the geology club is Sakurai Mikage. She has a best friend, Inose Mai from the same club. As always, she seems awfully close to Mikage.
The funny thing is that when Mira shares her intensions of finding an asteroid and name it Ao, she starts blushing. This is when Mira finds out that Ao is not a boy, but a girl. I find this realization quite cute and amusing, especially when Moe is happy for Mira. Not only that, she seems totally okay with Mira being in love with Ao. I guess Mira didn’t recognize Ao since she had short hair and a boyish name. Thankfully, she still remembered Mira from that charm she has hanging on her bag.
The next day, Mira tried talking to Ao through text messages. Ao becomes too anxious to reply. Mira becomes worried that Ao didn’t say anything back. It’s funny how Moe tries to cheer her up and encouraging Mira’s relationship with Ao. Moe suggests to Mira to invite Ao to lunch. That did the trick.
Yes, she just stormed into her classroom and invited her just like that. It seems that Ao didn’t respond since she is not able to send cute replies. Of course, Moe thinks that this is cute. Apparently, Ao become nervous since she said something out of context during elementary school. When she wanted to say that it’s humid today, she said it’s wet instead. Her classmates made fun of her accusing her of being a pervert. I guess this doesn’t help with her hair being short and mistaken as a boy.
Thankfully, she got better towards the end when she talked to Mira on the phone and look at the night sky. Of course, Ao did it on the whim and she becomes flustered while talking to Mira on the phone. Either way, at least Mira seems happier now.
As for the rest of the episode, the club decide their name for their newsletter together. Also, it seems that Mari from her advisor apparently received more money in their budget. I guess she plan to do some type of activity on a weekend. What is it? We have to wait and see next week.
This and OshiBudo are competing for Best Winter 2020 anime.
It’s not too surprising at all. But yes, this show manages to impress, although I only read like four pages of the manga.
