After Mangetsu becomes depressed over her possibly disappearing, Shisui finds her. Meanwhile, Ernesta can’t accept the fact she created Mangetsu through a wish.
From last time, Mangetsu became depressed that her existence can disappear. Shisui came up to her and comfort her. Apparently, she woke up from a long sleep from the curse. The thing that hits Mangetsu home is when Shisui asked if the world is just a miracle after another. She reveals that she woke up, went to buy food, thought the cool air felt nice, and found Mangetsu sitting there. When Mangetsu asks her about Kuon, Shisui doesn’t appear to know her. However, she thinks that it’s a nice and beautiful name as she tears up.
From this, this gives some clues in regards to a mage’s disappearance. Apparently, magical disturbances do not erase those who disappeared completely. This makes you wonder if the magic disappears, will Anna and Kuon reappear like nothing happened? Maybe, but it’s only my speculation.
Meanwhile, we see a flashback with Ernesta making a doll with Anna. The funny thing is that while Anna is good at everything besides using magic, she still wants to become a mage. It’s because she felt the need to do so. This makes you wonder what this has to do with Mangetsu? Ernesta realizes that she just made a doll using magic.
After calling Mangetsu, Mangetsu apologizes to her. Ernesta doesn’t think Mangetsu should apologize since she is not strong enough. When Mangetsu ask if she shouldn’t have existed at all, it’s obvious that Ernesta becomes upset. She runs to meet her. What is interesting is that despite her intensions to get rid of all magic and becoming princeps mage to do it, it appears that she changed her mind. After making the doll during her childhood, she wondered if she can make it move and talk. It becomes obvious that deep inside, Ernesta simply wants a companion that will be her by her side.
With Ernesta hugging Mangetsu, Mangetsu shared how she felt. She finally tells her that she has something inside her. Despite being invisible to her classmates, they still mentioned her name as she smiled to her. After sharing about what happened with Shisui and she continues to share how she felt about existing in this world.
Even after all this, Mangetsu insists that magic shouldn’t exist and wants Ernesta’s wish to become true. The thing that she doesn’t realize is that Ernesta wants to use the magic to possibly make Mangetsu into a human. After all, if Mangetsu disappears and suppose Anna never reappears, she will be alone again. Even after the farewell party, it appears that Mangetsu accept the reality despite Ernesta’s intention to save her.
With that, the question is, will Ernesta still save Mangetsu in the end even if she doesn’t want to? After all, what is stopping her from using the magic to turn Mangetsu into a human and then erase magic from existence? As they say, why not have both? I understand what Mangetsu is getting at as one can use magic as a crutch. Given how much Ernesta been though by losing her family and friends while being lonely, I see why she why she wants to use magic. She not to only wants fulfill her wish, but wants to grant herself the thing she desires the most. While both of these seems selfish, we’ll find out what she does next time.
On the lighter side, we have the farewell picnic for Mangetsu has some fun moments. Despite Kibou not knowing Mangetsu anymore, she is still best friends with Nene. After all, she still wants fried rice from her. In other words, the Nene and Kibou pairing is still alive. Also, we also see that Ernesta have poor cooking skills by how she cuts a carrot. Still, it’s nice to see everyone having fun. Also, it’s nice to see Shisui tag along even if her little sister is no longer with her.
