It seems that Maika has trouble finding a job, until she came across a certain café.
At a first glance, Sakuranomiya Maika is a cute girl from a traditional Japanese family. Even her mother, who wears traditional Japanese clothing looks more like an older sister than a mother. It seems that Maika has trouble getting a part-time job because of how her eyes look. She wants to find work so she can save money up to study abroad. It’s obvious that she doesn’t want her parents to pay for it. Otherwise, she won’t be independent.
From the looks of it, it seems that her eye problem has more have to do with her interactions. When she went up to the cat, she gave a scary face and the cat ran a way. This is surprising given her cute looks. As always, looks can be deceiving.
On her way to the train, she runs into a blond hair guy. This is the guy who owns a café that Maika goes to make funny faces. Eventually, he notices and decides to hire her. His name is Dino and he is the owner and works as a cook. He obsesses over cute moe girls and receives nosebleed from it like some anime fans in real life. He even stays up just to watch late night anime. There is no wonder he is always sleepy. Also, he is from Italy.
As for Akizuki Koyo, he is the only sane guy that works in the kitchen. From this, this show gives some resemblance of Working! except slightly less craziness. This time, it seems that Dino plays the role of Hiroomi Souma as he receives punishments from Koyo and later, Mafuyu. It’s not so surprising given his obsession over cute moe girls.
Also, there is Hinata Kaho who plays the archetype as a tsundere. It’s not surprising since she sports twintails. The funny part about her is in the second half when the sight of video games distracts her. She saw two guys trying to play Monster Hunter online, but having trouble doing it. It’s understandable since I play video games too. In the end, she ends up taking one of the guy’s Nintendo 3DS to set up online connectivity for them.
The last girl introduced in this episode is Hoshikawa Mafuyu. Given that she is short and looks young despite her age, she almost looks like a elementry school student. In reality, she is a college student and plays the little sister archetype. Yes, she does it very well. As for her actual persona however, she is probably not as girlish since she beats up Dino sometime. It makes me wonder if Mafuyu should be the super sadist instead given how she treats Dino. It’s not surprising given his Otaku tendencies.
On Maika’s first day, she is assigned the super sadist archetype. Given that she is young, it’s obvious that she will absolutely no idea what sadomasochism at her age. Despite this, she managed to pull it off despite questioning herself on how she treated her customers. Ironically, the customers seem to enjoy it. It makes me wonder how she will survive when she becomes an adult.
In the second half after the sight of video games distracts Kaho, she gets into a discussion about video games with Maika. It seems that Kaho is a hardcore gamer. It’s not surprising given that she is good at dancing games and even crane games at an arcade. The funny thing is that Maika only play board and card games, not video games. Somebody should introduce Maika to actual video games.
Overall, the first episode was very enjoyable. As mentioned before, it does resemble Working!, except it takes place at a maid cafe. Sure, Dino can be slightly annoying, but I have to admit that he is funny. Of course, this is not the full cast since there are a few more characters that need an introduction. Probably we’ll see them next time.
