Haifuri – Episode 12 (END) – The Final Mission to Reunite with Moeka

June 25, 2016 by chikorita157 2 Comments

At least Mashiro is there so Akeno wouldn't fall on the ground.

Now that Akeno decided to save Moeka despite the risks, will their operation be a success?

Yes! Wilhelmina is back!
Yes! Wilhelmina is back!

From the look of things, it seems as the Harekaze is at a huge disadvantage. Given that everyone agreed to her plan, they launched an attack to prevent the Musashi from getting closer to the city. In short, it worked. They managed to distract them despite recieving major damage to their ship. It was enough until the other ships including the instructor’s. Surprisingly enough, the Graff Spree shows up. Yep, Kouko must be happy to see Wilhelmina again.

Moeka and Akeno is finally back with each other.

Thanks to the help they received from the other ships, they need a plan to get on the ship. They used their secret weapon, namely Type 4 rocket to hinder them so that they can get to the starboard and storm the ship. The attack was a success.

Kouko once again hugs Mashiro without noticing.

At long last, Akeno is able to reunite with her childhood friend, Moeka. The reunion was emotional since they haven’t been together for a long time.

Maron is sad that the ship she worked on has sunk.

In the end, the Harekaze suffered catastrophic damage from the mission. It survived long enough to get back home and allow everyone to leave the ship safely before it sank. It’s sad to see the ship they were on for a month gone in an instant. Even so, it’s nice to see them pay tribute to it while it sank. In short, if they decide to make a sequel or a film since the girls haven’t graduated yet, it looks like Akeno’s class will get another ship. What ship will it be? Time can only tell.

Final Impressions

I have to say that Haifuri (or High School Fleet) is an interesting and enjoyable show. I liked how the girls working together in an operation and getting into naval battles. Still, I admit that the premise of ships becoming violent from a mind control virus rather unrealistic. Even so, it demonstrates Akeno’s ability of being a captain and how she and her crew members improve throughout the story.

As expected, the cast is large, which is given since the girls are managing a ship. This means that aside from people who work at the bridge, not everyone got time in the spotlight. Still, I find most of the characters enjoyable and of course, we can’t forget the pairings. The notable ones are Maron and Hiromi, Kouko and Wilhelmina, Mei and Shima, and Mimi and Machiko.  It’s too bad that Moeka hardly got any screen time despite being in the PV. Childhood friends seems to get the short end of the stick. Aside from that, I am happy that Akeno managed to save her in the end. Also, I like Mashiro not because she is a tsundere, but how unlucky she was before it got better.

In short, I hope there is a film or a sequel in the future. I want to see Akeno and Moeka achieve their dream goal aside from seeing the girls graduate. ¶

Epic final battle, awesome save from allies, esepcially Coco’s beloved Wunderkind, touching reunion between Captain Mike and her one true love, a bittersweet finale. The finale could have given us a more satisfying epilogue but what we got was good enough. Here’s hoping for more Hai-Furi in the future.

Yes, the battle was good, but I was kind of disappointed that Moeka got turned into a damsel in distress and a background character. I would like to see the relationship between Akeno and Moeka develop more, but oh well… but still, I do hope there is a movie or something to wrap up the story. Maybe in the future with the girls getting another ship.
