After the disaster from last week, will the concert band improve?
From the look of the teacher’s reaction, I would have thought that he would have given up on them a long time ago. However, he didn’t. It seems that he just wants them to improve, which is why he made him do various exercises such as running a lap outside. You might be wondering why It’s simple, to improve breathing, which is obviously an important aspect of playing an instrument.
On the other hand, it’s interesting to see how Kumiko sees the teacher. Compared to my concert band teacher during high school, while he comes off as being strict because cares about the music a lot, he also cares about the students. In fact, many students enjoyed him as a teacher because of his personality and eventually, he got a teacher’s award before leaving the school district for another one.
In comparison, I can see why the students would revolt against the teacher for the fact that he wants the band to become better than the status quo. In one instance, he made a girl who played the flute cry. I have a feeling that they will get used to him eventually and might even enjoy him. It took me some time to do so and I admit that I enjoyed my time in concert band. In fact, it was one of the defining moments during high school.
However, Kumiko doesn’t see him in a negative light compared to the other members. She sees him as being rather kind and passionate about teaching them music. Sure, she kind of caused a misunderstanding in front of Reina, but I’m glad that she finally got the courage to share what she wanted to say to her. Hopefully, their relationship will improve from here.
With renewed motivation, the concert band has successfully performed an ensemble after complaints and practicing. I have to admit that I liked how Kumiko encourages Nakagawa to play together after saying some good things to Reina. Aside from that, even though they don’t have much time until the festival, the teacher is confident that they will have a good performance at the festival with a new piece he plans on giving them. What will it be? I guess we’ll find out next time. ¶
