I saw this from far away. What will be the fate of Muse?
As hinted from the last episode, it’s apparent that it will come down to this. Of course, I didn’t expect Arisa to change her mind so quickly considering that she was gung-ho about joining Muse in the first place. Even so, the first season already foreshadowed Muse’s fate since the group already considered disbanding for the same reason: It just wouldn’t be the same without all 9 of its members. Since personality plays a big part in idol groups, having one member leave can potentially make a group lose a special quality that makes them unique. One can argue that Honoka could recruit one more member to have nine, but would it be the same group after the third-years graduated? In their eyes, they would only be a former shell of the group despite the new members for reasons stated earlier.
With that, have they made the right decision? To me, while it’s bittersweet to see them disband, it’s eventually going to happen for the fact that nothing lasts forever. The same thing will eventually happen to A-RISE when all the members graduate. In short, this happens all the time with any musical group, even in real life. What is more important to me is how well their music and achievements stand the test of time. Sure, they might lose popularity over time, but their fans will still have fond memories of them and enjoy their music. Who knows, Muse might unite after a few years to give a memorial performance.
At the end of the day, Muse’s disbanding doesn’t mean that they will cease to exist in real life for the fact that Bandai Namco (the parent owners of Lantis) wants to print money. Even so, I think this can be a good thing for the fact that the Idol Research Club will still exist. This means that the girls can form new units and become just as popular, or even surpass Muse while developing their own uniqueness. It mostly depends on how well the newcomers carry on the same legacy and discipline that made Muse popular. Nevertheless, if they ever decide to make another season or though a spinoff, it will be interesting to see how well the new members will do compared to the old ones.
Aside from that, next time is the final rounds of Love Live and I look forward to their last performance.
