Sakura Trick – Final Review

April 23, 2014 by Chikorita157 3 Comments

Artist: tarabagani

In the past, I only watched a few shows has some yuri, mostly magical girl shows since it’s one of my favorite genres. Since I haven’t watch any that focus mostly in a school setting, I decided to give Sakura Trick a try. (Image Source)

The story is focused on a girl named Takayama Haruka who is more than just best friends with Sonoda Yuu. They are inseparable. Upon entering Senior High School, Haruka got separated from her despite being in the same class, thus she has to spend more time with other classmates. In an empty classroom, Haruka and Yuu agreed on something to keep their relationship special, kissing.

While this show mostly consists of short segments since the source material is based on a 4koma, there were a lot of light-hearted moments, especially with Haruka and Yuu (along with her older sister Mitsuki who has a crush on Haruka). At the same time, I was glad that Kotone/Shizuku and Yuzu/Kaede received some time to develop as they have different reasons of being together, especially the former as Shizuku used to be a loner until Kotone make her become more open. But aside from that, the main focus of the story can be summed up as a slice of life story with pure two-girl romantic interactions and comedy mixed in.

Overall, I think Sakura Trick is a very enjoyable lighthearted yuri show. While this show is not 100% perfect for the fact that I would like to see the other couples have a bit more screen time (especially Kotone and Shizuku), I still think this is an approachable show for people who are interested in yuri mostly for its lighthearted feeling, comedy and of course, the kissing as long you can get past some of the fanservice.

Overall Rating: 9/10, A-, Very Good

Only Madoka knows whether this show will get a second season or not.
