A cute glasses-wearing girl appears, but something seems rather mysterious about her.
While I was watching this show for the first time, I had some mixed feelings. It seemed like the first half was parodying Chuunibyou with some slapstick comedy when Mirai tried to kill Akihito in a fight after doing it so many times. Even though it’s humorous with a bucket covering her head, it feels ridiculous considering that this is a dark action supernatural show where she is supposed to hunt for dreamshades, imaginary monsters who is out to kill people. You can probably compare this with Red Data Girl, which had a number of supernatural happenings with a light-hearted feeling.
On the other hand, while Mirai is an adorable looking girl who is in a similar situation Izumiko is in since both girls wants to live normal lives even though their powers won’t allow that, I just can’t take Mirai that seriously for now. I know that she has the possibly to develop into an interesting character, but time will tell. Also considering how many times she killed Akihito and being extorted so many times that I felt sympathy for him, I wonder what role he has in this dreamshade hunting since his only ability is immortality? I think we will find out sooner than later.
At the end of the day, I enjoyed the first episode despite its shortcomings. I admit that I couldn’t stop laughing when Mirai whipped out her smart phone coming about trolls on social network sites and on her blogs. While that scene was random, we also got to see a very attractive dreamshade hunter named Ninomiya Shizuku. But aside from that, hopefully the next episode will improve with Mirai successfully hunting down a dreamshade instead of stabbing poor Akihito.
isn’t that how you greet people? Seem perfectly normal to me
It depends, but I doubt stabbing isn’t a normal way to greet people in my opinion.
*nods to Marth* Stabbing is totally normal! 😀
I sound like a broken record but Mirai is no Rikka. I haven’t read the novels at all so I am going into this one blind. The hyped character interaction had better be worth my time.
While there can be characters that are similar, but it’s already obvious that they are never the same because there are some notable differences. Hopefully in future episodes, it will get interesting, but I’m not holding my breath yet.
I was talking about quality as an entertainer, not similarities between characters. Mirai is trying too hard to grab the appeal of KyoAni peasants with her over the top moe while Rikka, or even Tamako, only had to speak…and I didn’t like Tamako Market that much
