After the cliffhanger, will Haruka and company make it to the next round?
As expected, it seems that Haruka finally pulled through. I expected this from the beginning considering that he finally remembers out the reason why he wanted to swim from his childhood. He finally reveals this after Rei spied on Rin until he reached the elementary school that he, Haruka, Nagisa and Makoto went to remember the past. Hopefully from this, Rin will finally regret what he said to Haruka that he would never swim with him ever again. Still, I doubt he can change his stripes overnight as he already came off as a jerk. Not only that, Haruka finally found a different reason to swim: swimming with his friends in the same lane makes him happy. With that change, I think it will be a sad day for Rin when he finds out that his old friend moved on.
Aside from Haruka’s big reveal, the episode felt mostly light-hearted. Besides being surprised by Nagisa and Rei wearing a yukata while Makoto and Haruka didn’t, I thought that Kou and Amakata look rather cute in them despite not having much screen time. Even so, it’s rather enjoyable to see the boys having some fun at the festival eating some food, playing games and even catching some goldfish. Rei playing detective was also hilarious. With this short break finally over, I think the boys will finally take preparation for the nationals more seriously so that they won’t lose a rematch against Rin.
