For a long time, video games played a big part of my life because of the escapist element coupled with interaction. Of course, somebody came up with a brilliant idea to make a video game personifying the console wars such as the battle between the big three (Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft) or the one that happened in the 90s between the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis.
Now, these consoles are personified as cute girls in a video game titled Hyperdimension Neptunia, which is made by Compile Heart and Idea Factory. While Idea Factory has a bad reputation for making not so good games (although Monster Monpiece was enjoyable), at least their installments to their franchise improved on their gameplay and story. From that, we have the Anime, which everyone waited for.
From the first episode, it mostly focused on Neptune, Noire and their respective sisters after the grand ceremony with the four goddesses signing a friendship pact. While Blanc (along with Rom and Ram) and Vert receives little screen time, the main focus is on the two I mentioned along with Compa and IF. So far, the characters are rather enjoyable.
On the other hand, I never expected Neptune be that lazy. She only wants to play video games all day long and want to have fun while the other goddesses do their work. She even comes over to Noire’s place and bothers her. I somewhat understand now the things she has to deal with on a constant basis, but at least it gets better towards the end.
As a whole, the first episode was rather enjoyable. I got to see some hilarious moments such as Neptune and company eventually getting overwhelmed with Dogoos after defeating a bunch of them. While the fighting looks good, it only got better when Neptune transformed into Purple Heart and help save Noire by slaying the dragon in the cave. Hopefully with the next episode, we get to see more of the gaming world in the never-ending effort to stop piracy.
Same here, totally wasn’t expecting Neptune to be THAT lazy…:D
Hopefully with the hidden threat at the end, probably she will be more proactive in protecting the land of gaming from digital piracy!
I, along with many Neptunia fans, excluding a certain dork, have waited a year for this and…for the most part, most were pleased by what they saw. As for newcomers, meh, I don’t know what to tell them. It is clear that the show is made for the fans first and foremost and…I suppose I can hope that newcomers will end up liking it too…though I seriously doubt that.
Coming from only playing a few hours of the Neptune Idol, while the first episode was enjoyable, it’s somewhat difficult to follow. Hopefully things will get better after a couple of episodes… but yeah, I might get the remake for the Playstation Vita which is coming out and check out the story itself in it’s entirely… someday.
