It seems that Ore no Imouto dived further into the sea of disappointment with its finale.
Oddly enough, this season decides not to give the already predictable ending, but instead gives some flashback which could be summed up like this: Kirino has an older brother fetish aka, having a big crush on her older brother since her childhood! It seems that Kyousuke tried to escape Kirino’s grasp by leading a peaceful life, something akin to the main character of Hyouka. No wonder Kirino hated Manami since she disapproves the relationship Kirino wanted. Despite my dislike for Kirino, I can’t deny that she worked hard to become very successful. Not only that, it seems that visual novels with little sisters pretty much satisfied her fetish for older brothers, and eventually sucked Kyousuke back in.
Final Thoughts
While the first season was an enjoyable experience that caused much controversy in few of their episodes, the second season didn’t give the same feeling. Besides Saori’s episode, pretty much all the episodes made me cringe since Kirino gets very annoying while Kyousuke becomes a completely useless male lead that is helplessly in love with his little sister. However, T\the thing that broke the season is the sudden breakup between Kyousuke and Ruri, which made most viewers rage in front of the screen. The same is done to Ayase too, which is harsher than the former.
Overall, the second season of Ore no Imouto places less emphasis on what made the first season enjoyable, the social stigma otakus face. Instead, the second season focused on ship teasing with other girls before giving the obvious “Kirino will win” hint without actually showing it. There are girls better than Kirino, but Kyousuke rejects every one of them, which made me angry. Because of this, the second season is a big disappointment to me. Unless there is an alternate ending in the extra episodes, the second season is a disaster.
Overall Rating: 6.4/10, D, Below Average
Yeah, the second season of OreImo was really not that good at all. It doesn’t hurt my impression of the series as a whole because I knew it wasn’t destined to be very good before it even aired. If it was going to focus on the incest implications, well then… there wasn’t much you could do about that except prepare for the worst. It was just a real shame to see Kyousuke turn into such a snivelling, pathetic person. He used to be cool but now… heh. What a loser. I have to wonder what those girls see in him.
Of course, the series is very questionable considering the title already suggests incest. I wouldn’t mind it too much if it was an enjoyable little sister, but Kirino is definitely not the one. Maybe if they had an omnibus format so that every girl wins, maybe it wouldn’t be a shipwreck. Then again, most male leads are destined to become pathetic (except a few that mostly kept their backbones0, I wasn’t surprised by Kyousuke at all.
