Continuing on “the rememberance of love,” I dived deeper into the second quarter of Clannad After Story.
For a girl like Yukine, she is a rather odd character besides being cut from the roster of main heroines. Although she is cute, kind and smart, she actually takes care of delinquents or rather, gang members. It’s rather risky since they have a bad reputation. Still, the part that surprised me the most is how she breaks up the fight. She simply disguises herself as her older brother and in the process, get punched by the rival gang leader before he found out. Although hitting a girl is wrong, I admit that it’s an emotional way to reveal the truth so they can resolve their differences. Aside from the drama, the Hyper Rainbow Bread with Akiko’s Jam was the funniest part of the battle since it’s the deadliest combination in Anime history. 1
After those two episodes, this is where the After Story truly begins. Yeah, Nagisa getting held back again and Tomoya had a fit over wanting to stay back a year instead of graduating is predictable. Still, he develops further when he gets a job and his own place. From this, he truly shines as he becomes more responsible while getting even closer towards Nagisa. It shows especially with his desire to marry her after they visit his father in jail. Also, I liked how she got stronger throughout the story despite her hidden illness.
Lastly, Yoshino’s story in Episode 12 was very interesting to me for the fact that some of the elements felt similar to The Idolmaster. Obviously, being a musician or even an idol is not easy since fans have high expectations and you have to deal with it. Not only that, we need a reason why we are making and singing these songs. Apparently, he forgets about writing songs for his crush, Kouko that everything gone haywire towards the end besides the pressure from his fans. Creator breakdown was bound to happen, but him turning to heroin totally killed his career and dream. Even so, it’s fascinating how the writers used his story as foreshadowing to Tomoya’s father going to jail. Tomoya loses the job offer for a higher position as a result. That… just sucks!

Some Notes
- Talking about bread, Tomoya taking a job at the Furukawa Bakery reminded me of Shining Hearts ~Happiness of Bread~. Instead of obsessing over Rick’s Bread, you give the same feeling towards Sanae’s and Akio’s bread! Thankfully, it didn’t last too long. ↩
Dat deadly bread, it’s going to bring down even the most strongest men to his knees D:
Ohh I remember that gangster arc. What strike me as even more awesome is Tomoyo even besting every other gang member in a fight.
Yeah and I still wonder what kind of stuff Akiko puts in her Jam that makes it taste so bad… It might be durian and garlic, but I’m not sure. Still, the bread that Sanae comes up is rather hilarious though.
But yes, nobody should really mess around with Tomoyo… female strength at it’s best.
Oh no! You just included Shiawase No Pan with Clannad! Don’t do it!
Are you trying to keep me away from this show–Huh. That scene where Yukine gets punched…now knowing it, I wonder how I would react to it when I see the scene…
LOL…. Obviously, I’m not being serious since bread is obviously not the main focus (aka obsessing about it to no end), although the Furukawas own a bakery. But yes, the scene after she got punch got me there already as it built up the drama… most will probably feel the same way.
