After the chaos from the last episode regarding Kirino’s best friend, Ayase, the spotlight is taken off from Kirino and we are back to normalcy. Kyousuke stays over Manami’s house to get ready for Halloween, which is a very pointless holiday in my opinion. They don’t know that her grandfather has some silly schemes up his sleeves to have their granddaughter go out with Kyousuke.
Well, this episode was a breath of fresh air with Kyousuke and Manami preparing for Halloween. I would have thought, isn’t Halloween a western holiday? I guess not since this show and MM! Episode 5 covered Halloween at its surface. In my opinion, Halloween is a very pointless holiday that I really hate it… I gave up on it after fifth grade since I got tired of it. It’s just one of those overly commercialized holidays like Valentines Day that we don’t need.
Besides the Halloween stuff, Manami’s family is rather eccentric compared to Kyosuke’s mother and overprotective father. Manami has a grandfather that could play dead and even meddle Manami’s love life by setting Kyosuke up. This leaves us to hilarious reactions from both Manami and Kyosuke, especially when they are forced to sleep with each other. Also, some weird boy that is related to the family cut off all his hair since he wants a skinhead. Sadly, it was a short buzz. As a result, Kyousuke and the grandfather made fun of him and runs away with embarrassment.
Meanwhile, Kirino receives a package in the mail that has a loli girl dakimakura. After she unpacked it, she rolled around with it with excitement. Pretty creepy… In addition, she seems to be extremely jealous about Kyosuke’s relationship with Manami that she kicks the crap out of the door to his bedroom. If she was like Manami, a normal girl, Kyousuke wouldn’t avoid her as much… but unfortunately,he falls into Kirino’s Otaku hobbies, so it could either way.
When Kyousuke and Manami slept in the same room, it is revealed that even though they have some romantic feelings with each other, they would deny it. It doesn’t really help Kyousuke since he isn’t so interested in a romantic relationship with a girl, but wants a peaceful life. It’s like Rihoko who is a childhood friend towards Junchi, which has feelings for him, but never blossom into something better than a friendship. I still wonder how their relationship will play out in the last 6 episodes and I think it would be chaotic than peaceful.
Didn’t really like this sudden change of pace. Grandfather and that wannabe skinhead boy’s jokes weren’t that good either. Insinuations of Kirino’s longing for Kyousuke — far too blunt. Still, I am not dismissing the possibility that it will all be meaningful in the end when you look at the bigger picture, if nothing else, then as a buildup for the later episodes which I suppose will again be filled with pop culture references and whatnot.
