Shinryaku! Ika Musume – Episodes 4-5 – Shrimp Obsession and Mini Ika

November 3, 2010 by Chikorita157 5 Comments
A hostage stituation that went terribly wrong!

I neglected Ika-chan since I was so occupied with Zakuro. Also, my main laptop, Fujibayashi Kyou broke while I was at college. Since I got a replacement last night, I decided to watch the two episodes I have left sitting.

Episode 4

Ika <3 her shrimps!

This episode was rather bland since nothing exciting happened. Even so, it was still an enjoyable watch.

It’s a bit obvious that Ika loves her shrimps from eating the shrimp fried rice in the previous episode. She also hates going through the night without television.  It seems that the media has an influence on everyone’s life.

In the final part, a really cute girl masquerades herself in an Ika head. The rival did this so he could make fun of the real Ika and humiliate her… I wonder, is it really that fun to make fun of a squid girl even though her plans are a bit evil? Well, yes, and they go so far to have the head look like a grandma. Now that is insulting!

Episode 5

Mini Ika is so adorable!

Unlike the last episode, this one was enjoyable and heartwarming. In the first part, a sexy alien scientist thought that Ika was an alien… The problem is, Ika doesn’t look like one with the squid ink, tentacles and human like figure. On top of that, she looks cute than grotesque looking like most stereotypical aliens from other shows.

The second part had Ika taking over the school with her belief that the school was a military base. She even goes so far in taking the principal hostage and forcing him to eat shrimp even though he was allergic to it. Honestly, if this happened in real life, there would be a lockdown and the media would be covering it like crazy. Luckily, Eiko pulled her out and saved the principal. If Ika really wanted to attend school that badly, she could have applied/transferred instead casing a ruckus.

Last part was really adorable with Eiko taking care of a mini Ika Musume that she captured. The moments where Eiko was taking care of it was so cute that I fainted from moe nosebleeds. I got it especially when Eiko feeds a ton of shrimps to Ika and looking at her reaction after eating it. Unfortunately, the ending was pretty heartbreaking when Eiko passed away from old age while mini Ika lives on for another 50 years. It was a tearjerker nevertheless.

Overall, I still enjoy this show even though the jokes are a mixed bag. It also makes me wonder if Ika will ever have a successful invasion. So far, the humans remain victorious and abuse the crap out of her. In the end, abusing Ika gives a comedic effect.

The last part with mini-Ika is soooo heartwarming and poignant! The jokes are a bit all over the place, but it’s still fun.

At this point me and my sister are completely entranced by Ika Musume, we were talking about mini Ika and how cute she is all week long. Definitely one of the better comedy animes I’ve had the chance to see. Episode 5 was just kawaii overload.
