Like the last episode of Otome Youkai Zakuro, this episode focuses mainly on Susukihotaru and Riken over the investigation of the dubious sword obtained by a shopkeeper. The sword has some significance in revealing Susukihotaru’s hidden power inside of her that allows the revealing of a person’s select memories from objects.
At first, Susukihotaru felt uncomfortable around humans since everybody was staring at her. It was understandable since humans cannot accept her as what she is. However, the sexy shopkeeper, Orikata Aya seems to accept spirits and half spirits. She accepts them since she takes care of Mugi, a spirit child. I give her kudos for taking her in since I know most people will not have the courage to do something like this.
Later, Susukihotaru was shown Mugi’s sad past with a touch of Mugi’s comb by her powers. Mugi’s memories were pretty sad because a murderer took her mother away just like that. In a way, I felt sympathetic for her because it is difficult to cope the lost of her mother that she loved so much. Not only that, she does not want to remember that time because she does not want it to burden her life.
The sword has some importance to getting rid of Susukihotaru’s fear of humans and winning Riken’s affection. With her powers, she finds out more about the murderer and how it connects to the incident that affected Mugi. Unfortunately, the sword influenced her badly in a way that caused her craziness. She almost killed Aya, which was protecting Mugi in the same manner of Mugi’s memories. However, Riken injures his hand in the process of snapping Susukihotaru out from the influence. Susukihotaru ultimately regrets the action and showed some affection towards him. In a way, she became a stronger person from the experiences of her powers.
Even though there was a lack of tsundere Zakuro in this episode, I enjoyed Susukihotaru’s character development since she was a caring person that lacked confidence. She became a better person from this mission. Stories like these is what made this show pretty interesting and enjoyable. Hopefully the next episode continues on the trend with the twins.
This is a decent anime so far. The half-spirits always remind me of if Inuyasha and Kagome had kids and voila. Of course they are foxes but you get the point. This episode was my favorite so far because i do like Susukihotaru. Though you could never hide anything from her and that might be a tad scary.
Not so familiar with Inuyasha, but I have heard about it… not particularly interested though since its mainstream… but yes, it was pretty scary with the sword procession.
